Hey folks,

recently bought a TR for a dailey drive ( i own an rx7 hence need cheaper day to day travel) .. and as usual the bug is getting to me to modify it.

its a 91 TR 2.6 efi power steering airconditioned, Auto, Cruise control and tinted to buggery sitting on 15" stockies with 2004 hubbies on one side and stock hubbies on the other (bought it this way), alarm and immobiliser central locking. no idea of trim level or madel as the rear badging has been removed. It has wood grain inserts in the dash if thats a distinguishable feature?

Getting a pioneer CD player in stalled on wednesday also some front splits to go with the current 6x9s ( coon to be replaced) and the alpine amp in the boot, no subs for this car.

just curious at what some of the most common mods you guys do to these things...

im looking at exhaust lowering and KN panel filters just basic stuff...

whats your hints and ideas?

Cheers

Craig

Hey, Yeah generally people get an exhuast or rims just depends on how much money you are willing to spend mate

Welcome to AM mate, most common mods would be cat back exhaust (2.25" mandrel bent), straight through muffler, extractors, cold air induction, K&N filter (pod or panel)

A cold air intake is common as well

after dirving my rx7 with an exhasut bark like a blood lusting pitbull.. the magna seems... meeek.. silent... STOCK.. i cringe at the twin pea shooters. so i think that will be the first mod...

so 2.25 cat back exhaust and a hi flow..hmm was pretty much what i was thinking actually. got an exhaust place aroudn the corner will get a quote wednesday.

what sort of gains have u guys experienced in your power output with exhaust and CAI??
im guessing bout 60-65kw at wheels stock ?? modified???

never seen the magnas as any form of performance vehicle but i have been driving the new models every year for work since about 2001.. and i can definitly say they are acceptable power and driving cars. for family orientation... im still a lil biased towards my rx7 for pure adrenalin :P

gday mate and welcome!
well mainly wats done to these are wheels, sometimes suspensions, extractors and exhaust and pods... but im saving enough money to go extreme wen im older. these engines dont really sound too bad with a sports exhaust, mine has a lukey exhaust system, 2.5" which i think is a bit too big, coz im sorta booting it abit to get power at stand-still... but i like the note my car sends out now :D

i wish i could! but im too young and broke... so i'll stay with the astron II engine

to answer ur question DelusionL i think it may be a verada.. its hard to distinguish the models of the TR series coz there arent many differences unlike the TS

hey there man, welcome to the club - nice ride you got yourself there, it is VERY similar looking to mine. i love the black grill with chrome outline against the white car, i've been looking for a new grill for mine and that has confirmed im either going to get black/chrome in that style, or the TS style. Good luck with the modifying, i'd love to mod but no cashola atm!! :D

cheers fellahs... yeha i kind alike the colour codeing .. white... black windows... bit of chrome stripping to set it off... my rx7 is the same.. polished rims white paint black windows and chrome strips set it off awsome.

both cars are similer in colour coordination...

Sorry Hojo it's not a Verada, he said it's a 91 2.6L.
i'm guessing it's either an EXEC or SE someone has done up (woodgrain kit and alarm) or it's an Elite.
If it's an exec or glx it will have a grey/clear garnish between the taillights,
if it's an SE it will have a red reflective garnish, factory 4 speakers and front and rear reading lamps.
If it's an Elite it will have SE garnish as well as power windows, central lock, cruise, factory alarm (not immobiliser), door keyhole lights, etc.
(central locking was optional in 91/92 GLX/EXEC/SE)
Any mitsu dealer spare parts will be able to identify the model spec by the vin number.

oh yeah....... g'day and welcome to AMC!

If it's GLX it'll be carby

Welcome to the club

Plus it doesnt have the bigger bumper bars. to me it looks like a SE or exec, But it seem quite neat and tidy. and i know with verada they only came in 3.0L,

no worries, i was also thinking that it mightve been an SE model too, but i wasnt sure so i took a stab at it and sed verada

no rear headrests, my 92 SE wagon has rear headrests but no central locking.
It's probably an SE that has been done up. it's got SE grill and rear garnish as well as colour coded bars, this was standard on an SE but the painted door strips wern't.
Does it have a lid on the console? This was standard only in SE and Elite in the TR 4cyls.
the other give away that a TR is an SE is that it will have a clock not black plastic between the centre vents and also map lights and red "door lights" not just a single interior roof light like glx and exec.

DelusionL
15-02-2005, 03:22 PM
its got a clock..and a lid on the centre concil i forgot to look for lights... just popping out for a drive will check it out again..

whatts the trim levels?? like from pov pack to top of the range??? is SE good? *insert n00b comments here*

Yes looks like a TR SE with the following changes:
* Rear head restraints removed (see if you have 4 black holes across the top of your rear backrest where the restraints are supposed to be)
* Side protection moulding (that bulked-up strip all around the car) colour-coded
* 15" steel wheels with KR Verada Ei hubcaps on one side, and TL ES hubcaps on the other
* "Woodgrain" inserts from KR/KS Xi, or aftermarket

That should be it!

Central locking, power windows and cruise control (with Elite steering wheel) was a packaged option at the time, and will not be on some SEs.

the trim specs in tr 4cyls are
GLX- pov pack with carby engine,
Executive- pov pack with efi and A/C.
SE- upgraded exterior appearance, and extra trim as mentioned above, (cruise/central lock/security system optional)
Elite- all the bells and whistles
There were also other limited editions or dealer optioned models offered most were based on executives and have executive vin numbers.

I think central lock became standard in 1993

well the crappy alpine cassette player.. and the card board speakers where shocking.... so i cant handle that crap...

got the car at a good price was prepared to pay more.. so why not spend the extra dollers saved on the car itself to personalise it ??

will get another two late model hub caps to match the passenger side.. and ditch the old verada hubbies.. not after rims on this car..

Welcome mate,
Any work you need on the Magna (or the rx7 for that matter) feel free to contact me.

I specialised in Rotaries for many years and do a lot of the members Magna's as well.

Big_Paul... im not after a full set up ;) happy with just the splits n 6x9s its just a day to day car... hardly worth doing all that much to.. just some smaller personal touches.. next comes the exhaust and after that lowering it a few inches...

altho i did sus out another amp and a sub yesterday hmmm...
