It's actually really running two channels, not 4.1
With newer Hu's / Multimedia centres you can get DTS/Dolby Digital Decoders that will give you true 5.1
You will also need a center channel speaker.

keep in mind that the center channel is not purely for speech. And personally, if i was looking for a home theater setup in my car, i'd go for a 7.2 system. If youve heard one you'll know what i mean.

I suppose you mean 7.1 as in THX surround? If so, then I know what your on about.
What is starting to shit me about home theater equipement is the lack of a colour coded tape deck. By that i mean a silver deck! I've started building up my home system with 430mm components: DL DVD, Kenwood amp, Dome "audio-x" 5.1 speakers and a 6head Panasonic hifi vcr arriving shortly, but i cant find a silver faced tape deck component anywhere :x ! If anyone knows a decent manufacturer who makes them, can you let me know? A weblink would be good too.
 Not a bad setup for a 16 yr old

Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, and Pioneer all make DTS/Dolby Digital decoders. As long as your DVD headunit/player has a DTS output, you'll be able to set it up no worries 8)

Clarion sells a preamp equalizer with a center speaker in it that's powered to 20wRMS. It's a full DIN unit. Just would mount below your HU.
