fitted up the K & N replacement filter tonight and ran it with my revised (will explain) CAI after a computer reset let it idle for a few min and went for a spin wasnt really impressed untill the ECU started to map the fule and well i didint think an air filter could make That much difference it works really nice with my extractors i mean its not like hold on to your lunch pale tipe different but there is a noticable gain it just pulls so much harder now.
Now for the revised CAI alot of you are going to think im loco for what ive done but ive tryed vairous combos and this is working the best so far, im using origional plastic snorkle that attaches to the air filter bell, my CAI feeds from under the car to the front of the snorkle intake its not sealed it just blows onto the opening, i found my other setup was part of my running lean prob as there was air being forced into the MAF and the ECU was having problems with that, now back to the snorkle i dont think mitsi would spend time an money if just pipe would do the car seems to pull through its torque range better with it fitted than just straight CAI. where to from here well i have no plans or budget to go turbo so ill probly stay with the sleeper look and fit a 2.5" cat back system.

i would have thought the maf would tell the computer to add more fuel with more air? ah i dunno, rest sounds good. Im keeping my uni, if it breaks like TC said then i'll glue the bastard back together, my car doens't deserve more than 60 bux for an airfilter

MAF is unused at any WOT instance, and only used from partial throttle (sub 40% air flow roughly) to around 2700rpm. there is jaycar kits you can install to find when you are or are not in closed loop. you'll find its all placebo

yeah i built a jaycar kit (EGO tester) about a week and a half ago ran it with interesting results but that was pre K & N filter, that caused me to change my CAI to what i have now, with the new filter maybe i should try my old set up again i mean the old filter must of been ****ed there is a big difference in the car now, i miss the sucking sound of the CAI, the fun of it all :D guess what im doing this weekend moding my CAI, if i can keep the boot out of it im sure ill have better fule mileage now also doubt that will happen tho

shouldnt change... MAF measure air in and fuels for the amount of air. ur added air from the supposed "higher flowing" air filter can be counteracted with less throttle

number 1... get a MANDREL bent system. don't let anywhere talk u into buying press bent cause it isn't worth getting. mandrel all the way, i can say this because i have mandrel and it sounds better then any press bent systems ive heard on any other cars
number 2... 2.5" is TOO big. i have 2.5" but only cause im going turbo. its way too big for an N/A car. i would suggest going 2.25" at MOST, aslong as it's mandrel bent.]
just thought i'd throw my input in there.

ring around and get a two inch mandrell system. brendans was like 300 with a new flex piece and muffler. the piping is very simple on a magna and isn't really hard to do, hence the price. do not settle for press bent unless you want a wet sloppy **** sound and no extra performance.
if you can, ring a few wreckers and find a cat from a falcon or V8, i had this brilliant idea to truncate the cone shape parts at either end of the cat housing to make the in and out side the same diameter as the exhaust. this will increase performance even more :D i would suggest getting extractors aswell. then you WILL notice a increase in power

2.5" is to big only for carby cars.
2.5" for efi cars is fine so long as it has extractors because the ecu compensates.
and yes i agree mandrel is better. if your not upgrading the car any further than where it is or nothing more major, then stay 2.25" mainly for fuel consumption reasons. if you are massively upgrading later on then go bigger. no point paying 2ice for the 1 job.

I have lukey extractors already fitted and its efi so id probly go 2.5 may stick with a cat back system never gave a cat from a v8 any thought tho hmmmm

you can get 8inch piping if you have a propperly designed set of extractors. but as standard the exhaust manifold and the exhaust itself is creating the backpressure needed for a little more down low torque.
as for efi or carbi, it doesn't make any difference :doubt:
