Alright, just got the clutch replaced on my TF V6. I was a little suprised at the final price ($1,138). To be fair, the clutch is an upgraded unit  (RPM I think, $495 for the kit, includes thrust bearing and some other seal or somthing) and price inlcudes labour and flywheel machining (yes these flywheels can be machined, but apperenttly some models had a dual mass flywheel which cannot be machined), but at 1,140 for a familly car I was suprised  .
What are the prices others have paid for a clutch replacment? :P

**** u paid a bit for fitting then if the kit was only $495! cheapest clutch kit i could find was $530 and that was for a standard clutch. On top of the price of the clutch kit i paid $360 to get it fitted, including flywheel machining.

The pressure plate died once in my old VT Commodore and I had to replace the whole lot.. ended up needing a new fly wheel too as apparently they couldn't machine the face and it was messed up from the slippage that had been happening. Cost me $1800 neat, using all genuine parts.

Direct form the invoice:
Clutch kit RPM HD: $495 :D (we get discount as the place that did it is next door)
FLywheel machining: $45
Labour: 9 x $55 = $495
subtotal = $1,035 + GST = $1,138.50 :cry: :doubt:
Ahhh well had to be done, at least now it crabs without slip

Its not the clutches that are overally expensive (with the exception of ceramic clutches etc) but its the labour that kills you. Generally its around the 500 to install. Paceway mitsu quoted me 550 to install a clutch i supply... HELL NO!
If you shop around you will be able to find places that will fit them for 380 - 450.

Been there m8. I had a VT series 2 S pak and was only 50000 klm or so old and my clutch died too. Dude at the dealership said it was a fault in the pressure plate, but holden would'nt awknowledge it, and he said heaps of people had the same problem. I was extremely pissed, but I went to a transmission workshop and they did it $1040 sweet. And apparently you can get one machine job out of the flywheel, or so they said. I sold it 2 weeks later. Holden has extremely crappy warranty service, they're a bunch of thieves in my book.
As we write I am getting one in my magna now under warranty as I just got it 2 months ago, mitsu had no problem whatsoever with it being a warranty job, they could'nt have been more courteous about it either, BIG THUMBS UP!!!!
$830 i payed for a daiken installed on mine with all the machining ect

9 hours? that seems quite excessive. I dropped my car off at 4pm Friday, and got it back by midday Saturday.

IT was the first time they have changed a magna clutch, most of the thinkgs they get in their are either Commodore, falcons and anything sles with a V8 lol , and some turbos, but mainlly RWDs. Took them a couple hours to figure out how to remove all the stuff needed to get to the clutch. They said th eclutch was easy, just getting everythiong off and then back on again was a pain. :P

ahh the joys of having nothing to do durring uni break. ide take the whole motor out personaly, might take 12 hours vs 9.. but imagine the cheap little things you could do soooo easy while its out! emissions no more, coolant to the manifold no more plus a whole heap of little things.
and at the price of a grand ide definatly throw away a weekend to do it all
when i mention i do my car, i just lift the gearbox out myself. gotta love match box cars lol

So now it has come to light that it is Jim who supplies Rospen with their clutch kits! He also supplies Rigoli and MRT!!! Jim's clutches hold the world AWD 1/4 mile record and the Australian AWD 1/4 mile record.

Jim builds all clutch kits to order. There is virtually no "off the shelf" gear at his shop and he never intends to mass-produce.
VERY reliable clutches. he will make a std one or he will make a gear breaker if you want. its up to you  but if you want to chirp 4th ide ring him

What clutches are out there these days?
I know you can get RPM Clutches from Repco.
There is daiken / exedy which are pretty good i hear
Also Adelaide clutches Xtreme Clutch kits are insane but at just over a grand for a ceramic kit with pressure plate that hurts the wallet :P
