Hey hey... Haven't been on for a while, and probably didn't make that much of a splash when I was on last for anyone to remember me... But that don't matter!!!

Okay.

I installed a system myself over Christmas. It kicks.
I find now that my battery can't handle the power, and all of a sudden it is going flat. While it's not the greatest battery in the world, it was pretty close to new when I put the car together, but I am only running a 1400w amp and 50w x 4 H/U. I wouldn't of thought that this would of been an issue.

Is it worth getting an audio battery for the amp? I have read that they can increase your ouput, because they provide a completely different source and type of power, but I'm more worried about draining battery power regulalry from the standard car battery.

Has anyone had this problem?
Is it normal to go through batteries if you only have generic cheaper ones?
Is anyone running their setup through a car audio battery instead of their car battery?

The battery isn't your problem man, it's the part that charges it that isn't keeping up, your alternator. From the sounds of it your alternator probably has sad brushes, as it should be able to handle more than that so you might want to get someone to look at it, if not then you might have to get a higher output alternator.

Brushes arent much to get fixed, for a bosch alternator it's 2 screws and 30 dollars worth of brushes with a solder, or around 60 for the regulator pack, not sure what it's like for a mitsi tho, the last japanese alternator I had anything to do with(hitachi) had internal brushes and needed to be stripped to remove them.

So yeah generic batteries will only ever give you problems in longevity and starting problems, if they give any problems at all :)

good luck

I was going to suggest the same thing. if the battery is in good condition it should be fine with your amplifier.

I don't suppose you're in NSW are you? If you want I would be more than happy to fully test both the battery and the charging system. If there IS something wrong with your battery, we have Optima's etc here if you need one.

Hey FHRX throw me ur best price on a yellowtop. Cheers

Yeh even some huge SPL systems have only one battery. This is not your problem. Multiple batteries is very rarely needed for car audio systems.

Peace

Argh! I was in Sydney for Christmas, but never got near a computer to get on here to ask a few of the more technical questions. It would of been great to catch up with someone from here, but alas, it wasn't to be.

I am thinking that it is the alternator or something along those lines, because I gave the thing a good kick in the guts on the way home yesterday, and the battery voltage indicator jumped back up to its normal reading (just under 16v). I didn't even consider the alternator, because I am certain it was new. My step father put a great deal of the car together before I got to Sydney, so I can only assume that what he says is true. At any rate, I don't think someone would lie about an alternator!

It's okay now in the sense that if I give it a good run at some higher revs, it comes back to life.

I'll get it looked at when I've got some $$$.
Thanks for your understanding!

Yep. That's in about 6000 K's (next service). It seems to have levelled out a little, but I'll do it as soon as I get some spare cash.
Thanks heaps for the info, peoples!

Caps are a waste of money... Bandaid solution...

go the Optima Yellow top or an upgrade of your altenator or wiring.
