Last week I got a Lukey LR..whatever exhuast fitted along with a 2.5" rolled tip. Now we just noticed this afternoon, upon starting my car (not driven all day), I small amount of blackish coloured smoke/soot was spat out when the car starts. Same happened when giving it a bit of a rev, although each time it wasn't as bad as the previous. Then proceeded to drive around the block then tried it again. Everything was fine then.

Am I correct in thinking that because I have a rolled tip, the exhaust shit is getting built up right on the end of the tip and only getting blasted out with the initial build up pressure of starting the engine?

Whats going on!!!!!!! Should I panic???

shouldn't be the case dude. i am thinking

1) maybe the muffler maybe a used one and there was substantial carbon build-up in it

2) since you have a freer flowing muffler now, that equates to less backpressure and consequently, a requirement that intake air be increased. in which case, your air filter might be clogged bad and air-sensor screws up ecu screws up air-fuel mixture.

3) there might have been carbon build-up somewhere along the line and it's being blast out by the higher pressure outgoing exhaust.

just some ideas outta my head. i am no expert hehe... in any case, it should go away after a while. if it stays, take it a mechanic or something.

Well the air filter in the box was only replaced 3000k ago. Well according to the service paperwork anyway.

And the muffler looked pretty clean when i got it!

if you've been driving in dusty conditions, i am assuming you use the stock paper filter that normal service provides for, then airflow would have been significantly impaired. the paper fitler doesn't allow as much air through as the k&n ones. since you've got the performance muffler now, might as well get the k&n panel filter or pod to complement.

the black smoke should go away after a while.......... don't worry too much abt it. :) oh yes, in the meantime, it'll be good to monitor your fuel consumption for any irregularities.

Rolled tips also collect water... watch out for that :)

I just do normal driving around the suburbs. I was actually thinking about getting a panel filter today, but I decided not to since I only got a new one ~3000km ago, and figured i may as well wear it out a bit then buy a K&N.

When the tip is hot yes, say when you park it outside under rain... no and although they say stainless steel, it'll still rust... I would suggest applying corrosion X or maybe drill a hole for the water to drip out of it...

naa it wouldn't evaporate so quick. those things have a nack for collecting water.
