Hi Guys, just got myself a TN 2.6 Ariston II wagon I have a couple of questions:

1. How easy is it to replace water pump??

2. I want to change the fulid in the gear box(manual) where will I find the fill and drain plugs and how much dose the gear box hold?

Great site, good to see there's some support out there for these vehicles!

Hey mate, Welcome to the forums.

Water pump is a very basic thing to replace, if your not mechanically minded, its the big silver thing to the right of the rocker cover, single belt.

First, drain the coolant out (you could possibly avoid this, but coolant will go EVERYWHERE) then undo all the pipes from the water pump, from memory there is about 4. Then loosen all 5 bolts holding the water pump on, then you sort of rotate it to get the belt off, once the belt is off remove all the bolts and it should just pull out. To install the new one is a reversal of that procedure.

Gear box fluid is pretty basic, the drain plug is on the bottom of the gearbox, but on a bit jutting out, if you know what i mean? Drain it out from there, the gearbox holds 2.8 litres fro memory (correct me if im wrong) this is the complicated bit, unlike the auto trans which has a fill up spot at the top, the manual trans has it on the side, the way i do it is, i made a bottle with a bit of tube coming out the top and siliconed in, i just fill up the bottle with fluid and stick the tube in the hole and it goes in quite neatly, you could do something similar.

Hope this helps mate!

I use a squeezy sauce bottle for tranny fluid, buy them for $1 (from $2 shop  ).

Buy a few of them for your garage!

Useful also for sucking out brake fluid from the reservoir before you push pistons back.

Can also use them (with a bit of rubber hose) to suck fluid out of the brake caliper
nipples when you try to flush brake fluid without a 2nd body's help.

Water pump ... the big silver thing to the right of the rocker cover, single belt.AF

"Right" as in RHD Driver's side.

"Left" of the 710 cap :D if you're standing at the front bumper looking in.

"Rear" of engine (its transverse with engine's front being where the crank belt pulleys are),
adjacent to sparkplug/cylinder #4.

No mate, the water pump has a small seal on the part that goes into the block, this should come with the new water pump.

Soory one last question, I need to replace some of the bulbs on the dash instrument cluster and also behind the heating controls how do I do I go about removing the cluster and the dash?

Ok, on the dash you will see 2 little grille thingos, use a flat blade screwdriver, CAREFULLY remove them, (i broke BOTH on my first go at this) you will see a screw behind each, remove the screws, this will enable yo uto remove the black trim panel, then there should be a few bolts and nuts around there, remove them and take the dash out, unplug the connectros from the back of it and make sure you remember where they came from, you can then proceed to replace the bulbs.

As for behind the dash, i suspect you have to remove the whole dash for this, and trust me, its a daunting process, maybe better to leave those ones?

the below pics are the gbox on the side showing where to fill up i think its a 17mm and the sencond pic is the little tool i use to fill it up just screws on the bottle and you only need to fill it up till the leave reaches the plug, also the manuals are ment to hole 2.5l using 75w/85w hypoid gear oil

and as for the heater control lights there EASY to replace, the one for the knob lights thos little ones on the knobs all u need to do is fully open the glove box (by squezin the sides and pulling down then u remove that little black piece on the right then if you look in you will notice a white plug pull that out and replace with a parker globe as for the ash tray and cig lighter globes unscrew the ash tray and once again look in as you did with the other one ^^ and look around the cig lighter is easy to see and replace once the ash tray frame is all out, as for the a/c ones all you need to do is pull off the knobs for fan/heat etcetc then grasp the whole black frame and pull out you might need a flat head then unplug the a/c switch and look at the back of the switch and you will notice 2 white/gray units take them out and replace, as for the ones that light up the whole black bit?? well depending on the trim level (eg the se,elante, elites have the fan and temp on the ugly control panel) if you have a glx or exec im not sure but i know in the higher spec models once u take out the black surround u will notice one globe all you do is remove that and replace but for the lower specs i think ull need to remove the 2 or 4 screws then take out the bracket

^ hope that made sence i only woke up :P
