lol That got your attention... (Feel free to leave now ;))

I just realised that in my short time here and my long time whoring the Magna audio section I've only begun two threads in Car Audio. (They were months ago) I'm not in the industry, the only profit I make is beer and an odd ringing in my ears ;) but who else around here is nuts about car audio? And for anyone that is how did you get into it?

I should take a picture of my room right now... I got interconnects in (Bling) Gotta solder them up. Got subs all over the place sub boxes everywhere and about 50 metres of wiring all over the joint. I spend all day researching this and that and drive to the end of the earth on weekends to check out new gear and buy junk. Got three mates systems and one family friends boat as works in progress, and am kept up late at night by ideas for boot installs (I need help) Every payday sees me paying back all the people that I bought gear off and I can never bring myself to sell anything as I know one day I'll need it. When driving my friends around I make careful selections as to who goes in my car and who goes in the front seat. (Too close to the controls) Don't even get me started on the girlfriend selection process... ;) I almost had to install earmuffs on a rope to hang down from the passenger side visor.

This is by far my biggest hobby. I wouldn't even say my system is that good atm (the more you learn the more you realise you could do) but I am starting to learn the ins and outs of it all and get a real buzz after finishing an upgrade then listening to the benefits. Or spending a weekend on a mates car and putting that last panel on to hide up the last wire. I'm sure some people around here can also say it sounds better after doing it yourself.

/rant...

Peace

Tim

haha...car audio freak.

Looks like someone's been shopping on CAA lol I mean...I like car audio...spent thousands on it...but by no means do I spend my weekends or my life researching this stuff  Yes...I do research stuff, buy stuff etc so i don't spend my money on useless crap....

Eh..I say, you're a spammer. Look at your post count to what member number you are :P

I love car audio....but my system is taking shape....VERY VERY VERY slowly

As for music...umm, i'm sure AM doesn't condone the downloading of illegal music :P

Fine, please suggest music that I can purchase from music stores and support the music indutry... (I usually try before I buy anyway)

My post count has been dropping recently, below 8 a day now. I'd say most are on topic lol No seriously, look at them, most are helpful. I only post crap when I get bored...

Ok I get bored at work easily...

I have a great idea. Perhaps you should take a pic...include some directions to your house, house plans etc....wouldn't mind stealing some stuff :D

I've found a lot of albums that are leeched off the net, especially mp3s suck. Sometimes u can clearly hear that the notes are distorted (esp the lower and higher pitched notes). I'm getting sick of crappy tracks these days...will start buying genuine CDs...or helping friends backup theirs, you know, for safe keeping

I'm happy with 192 kb. Usually only look through people's sorted iTunes folders, because otherwise I spend soo much time keepin them all up to date. If I find albums I really enjoy I always like having them. And they get thrown into the stacker.

Almost everything in my car I got cheap (and second hand) I wouldn't say there's that much value in there... Just let me know when you're coming so I can hide in the boot with a bat...

I would have spent under $1500... (not including time and labour and ignoring retail costs) Money doesn't come cheap... (That's why I drive a Magna)

Hehe yeah I'm guilty of that, I got a ****load of stuff I should ditch but cant, bout 4 decks a bunch of speakers, ****loads of wiring, terminals and fuses more than I could ever use :P. I also got about 3 projects on the run like you, doing my sisters car, my brothers car, my car and just finished my mates car  And yeah as far as the researching goes, my g/f says I'm obsessed, but hey - thats half the fun. On that note - anyone heard a focal 27v2 subby at all, if so was it any good?

i'm blessed with extremely good hearing, which unfortunately means i'm very picky with the quality of my audio (eye sight is 100% spot on aswell..... damn expensive TVs....) i can tell u now, pretty much all my wage in the last 2 years has gone on my car and bedroom. the car audio has cost me over $8000, i also decided to spend about $5000 on a home theatre for my bedroom, and even the PC has a 19" screen and Logitech 5.1 system... not to mention the 150+ DVD's none of which are copies....

being a "audiophile" is a curse.... lucky my dad understands.... i should have bought a house by now!!!!

but still nothing makes me happier that cruising with a real nice quality song playin... may as well enjoy it while i can

go the home installs, iv done 2 full systems in the past week in my brothers pagero (love the easy to get to firewall) and a mates astra. Love it when you hook it up and it just works. Got a custom install coming up on a fully sik corolla with a mate in a few weeks it is going to be sik as, hopefully winning the local SPL comp next year with this setup.
Iv done that many stereos installs that i lost count and you know what the funny thing is i have a stock system in my verada as i sold my old system to a mate to buy a better one and then spent the money on other stuff. But itll eventually happen, i hope as my old beast had a cracking sound system used to love it when smick 4 bangers rock up near my old magna that has since gone to a better place and turn up their stereo's i used half volumn and they are like dude what you got in there, thats when i leave before they get their greddy eyes on my goods...

anyways dude good luck with the addiction i dont think ill ever be that bad but im obsessed by a good stereo though..

cheers

oh, u got my hopes up tim.
Yer, im 17, before i had my p's, i had spent around 2k (age 16)on an audio system. my next car will be bigger and better stereo wise, but may be smaller car wise for spl and so on, or just another magna.
I help friends whenever i can and cant resist a trip to a car audio shop for a bit of fun. I dont know all my wiring for h/u's and amps are a tad hard cause i dont understand ohms and bridging and watts quiet yet, but ill get there.

Peace Y'all

Yeah I got over Kazaa about a year ago, it's good if you want to find one song. But for albums forget it. Quality is pretty dodgy too...

Oooh I just got an active frontstage going... Bye Bye Tweeter distortion :) Hello midbass.

Well half an active frontstage going... (The right half)

Still on rattle patrol, Gonna have to get some paint on deadener. Anyone know anywhere cheap in S-E subs of VIC? My trim is going nutso... I think my midbasses may be excurting into the covers too... But probably just my imagination. Gonna get rid of the plastic speaker mount when I get a chance and mount the whole mdf baffle onto another sheet of mdf.

Mmm I got more knobs to play with now... lol

Peace

what do u mean by 'active' front stage? u mean splits or having the tweeter and woofer amped seperatly? or am i way off the mark here?

s_tim_ulate
20-02-2005, 02:25 PM
Yeah no passive crossover...

So using the amps 'active' crossovers and an additional electronic crossover to adjust the slope, attenuation and cut off points of my tweeters and midbass drivers.
Currently running midbass and tweeters off a seperate channel. (4 channel Alpine amp)

Still experimenting...

Why is this car audio so difficult, i never knew there was such a thing as active cross overs, but now that i know it exists i'm still not going to do anything about mine cos i'm scared of blowing my tweeters with too much power...

Sounds interesting what your doing to your car though, i've completely given up on car audio for now (wait until i get my new car), you suddenly notice how much more spending money you have once you give it up, it's amazing, its almost enough to save up for a new car...

s_tim_ulate

Active crossovers actually protect your tweeters as you can set tweeter level and crossovers independently of the midbass. Atm I got 65 w rms of available power per tweeter.
(There's some sore ears)

Hmmm as to whether or not it sounds better when you install it yourself... ask my 12.5lf that isnt working due to over excursion he he he. Nothing will beat an excellent professional job but if you take it to most strathfield / JB then you should just give it ago yourself.. you will definately take better care of your car.

Im with Killbilly.. where is the free stuff????????? :belt:
