Hey i have a manual TH. When im driving at slowish speeds and changing from 1st to second it sound to "crunchs" when i put it into second, its not that loud but enough get me a bit worried. At higher revs wen i rev out first and put it into second more firms it doesnt seem "clunk" as much?

Is this normal?

Not sure if its normal but it is common.... 2nd is a biatch at low speeds in most manual 3rd gen magna's from my experience - especially when cold.

I'm thinking of flushing/changing my transmission oil/fluid to see if it makes shifting in general any better.

Yeah I've noticed my 2nd gear is being a pig ****er atm too. Have to shift through the gearbox at just the right speed or it crunches/clunks a bit. Its fine when you boot it.

most manual cars i have driven have had the 2nd gear crunch. not that this helps you or anything lol

yea, i've got the same problem with my TR....but im pretty sure its just my syncro that need realining. if anyones got some way 2 fix this without ripping my gearbox out. btw already tried the additives.
so this could be the same problem but not as major cuz mine has a big crunching. embarassing
and also how much would it cost 2 get some sort of performance gearbox. because i think it about 2 go.
cheers

yeh, i have the same thing in my vrx, but my only happens when the car is still cold, and the sound comes straight from the box. maybe it's just a clunky gearbox and not much to worry about, but if you are worried, then just get it checked out. It wont cost much if it's nothing. hope that helps

rev matching is what ur doing.. you'll notice you dont even need the clutch if u get it spot on.

yours second gear syncro is worn out, and is notchy. nothing can fix it now

Happens to me too at most cold starts. But once its warmed up it is nice.

Adjusting the gear lever cable may help a bit too......Of course if you have no idea what I mean, then it probably is better to get a specialist to do it for you.

Got the same on my TH. I get a real "zzzz..clunk" when it's cold. Changed the fluid, no difference.

RPW says it's the clutch, better get it fixed before a bearing seizes. :)

Mitsu dealer says syncros. They're only about $70 each but the labour will cost both arms and legs.

Local mechanic says he didn't notice it...... and then told me he took my car out to 7000 RPM in first.

the gear oil isn't up to temperature and it makes gear changes notchy. happens to most cars and especialy cars which have aftermarket fluid installed

doesn't mitsu have a 10 year drive train warrenty due to the fact they have a shocking name when it comes to magna tansmissions (namely autos)

I'm not exacty sure its coming from the gear box now. Id is clunky when its cold, but most of the noise sounds likes its coming from the H-gate. Maybe I'm just **** at changing gears, but do these things wear very easily?

syncro's wear only when there is little oil or they are being abuse with very fast shifts and when there is a big difference between wheel speed and engine speed eg; putting it into second at 90 to slow down

Well apparently its my **** gear shifting techniques. Dad got in a drove it and it didnt clunk at all
