Well, the inevitable has happenend, my gearbox has carked it...(1988 magna wagon)
a replacement is necessary and am buying one tomorrow from a mitsubishi parts centre. I have a copy of the magna repair manual but was just wondering if anyone has any tips for me as i am not the most mechanically minded magna commuter.

get a small crane or engine stand sorta thing.... gearboxes are heavy and hard to line up with 3 people reaching into the engine bay.

I used a second Trolley Jack to take the weight. It worked a treat!

manual or auto? auto is SOOO much easier because you just ahve to attach the flex plate to the stallconverter, manuals are harder because you have to insert the input shaft into the clutch disc. engine crane with good straps and possibly two solid high jacks.
replace your clutch if you hvae one while your at it aswell as the thrust bearing, you'de hate to get it all together only to find out the thrust bearing is starting to play up.

actualy, pull the whole engine and tranny out of the car do it all while its out. much easier to pull out CV's than it is to allign a big ass motor and gearbox up in a FWD  just ask TM_RED_SE how much trouble I had

Your dreaming turbo_charade. I have done 4 now from start to finish in 4hrs. What are you smoking?
isnt too hard if you know what your doing dont forget to get check your rear main seal to make sure its still soft coz it would piss u off if u put the new gearbox back on and it started dripping oil.. and make sure u get the new one serviced straight away for me in my ke took approx 6 hours from start to finish with 3 ppl we used trolley jack and block of wood for leverage and make sure ur torque converter is in properly it should recess a lil bit coz i thought it was supposed to be flush only to find out it wouldnt bolt back together properly thats about all advise i can give..

TN Auto?
Price up the difference between the required parts and a fully-fitted changeover unit.
I have been studying $$ last 3 wks and also reading the Greggy's, and its a pretty big job.
Its definitely one that I'd prefer to pay for a pro workshop to do.
