please nobody flame me for this, i dont remember where i read ti so i dont think it was here...
basically i read an article about magna's and cold air induction and somebody said that if you do a pipe down for the airbox towards the botom of the car it makes BOV noises when you let of the accelerator, im guessing through some sort of vacuum effect....im not sure of this but thats not my question
Is it possible to have ur standard CAI and then have this pipe i hear so much about? SO have say a K and N pannel filter and then this pipe coming up to it and the standard airflow? i dont have a magna (yet) so i dont know what the airbox looks like, me and a mate were discussing it today about the pipe and saying how it would be a good idea, is this pipe effective? Does it really have a vacuum effect? if it does then wouldnt it suck up water and stones form the road or is it not this stronger vacuum? im trying to learn about things so as i sed dont flame me for it? and as my mate said if it sounds like a BOV i want it...:P

That noise isnt just with a CAI. I could hear it just as loud with the stock intake setup. :bouncin:

yeah
pretty sure its just the noise of air or exhaust gases moving through your exhaust manifold. nothing to be worried about, sounds pretty cool. very faint BOV type noise
so anyway, that wasnt whay i was getting at, what i meant was in the TS's what good is this pipe intake thing? is it worth it, does it make any noise :P lol

on a N/A engine you'd never create enought suction/vacuum to "pull" water up a pipe yay-long...
if it was boosted - something to worry about :shifty:

probably true.... but i drove through a deep puddle a while back n my engine started spluttering and idling gay... parked it and came back n it was all good.. :D
I had the same on that day when it really pissed down. Had to drive real grandma or else the engine would stall. Thats with smokers CAI however.

tahts cos your engine didnt have the vacuum to suck the water up the tube - it was being starved of air!!!
no air = stalls - did you notice all that black smoke out your back end  - it was running RICH
hahah

cai is worth every penny(if your doin it yourself, not if your spending $300 on a custom job)
dunno about the noise from changing gears or backing off at high revs(what i said on the other thread is what i heard from someone else) all i know is its there and pretty noticable.

damn that cant be good for the engine getting watter sucked in, i was gonna do this mod but am thinking it might not be worth it if it has all these troubles, now i know why mitsubishi puts it under the bonnet to stop these problems even though it might reduce air intake.

Actually, I know a guy who dyno proved that it makes no difference. No filter either. That was on a WRX so if it makes no difference on a turboed car, I don't think it's going to make a difference on an NA car.

did he have a fan right infront of the entry pipe imitating the amount of air as if he was doing 60/80/100+ km/h?
was it a hot or cold day?
on a hot day i don't think it would make a difference but cold day or at night i have no doubt it would work

Cold days are VERY noticable with smokers kit, redav

yeah cows obvioulsy if your arent going forward no air would go into the intake! lol but surely if the intake was lower and facing forward it would take mroe air than the original air intake therefore more power!

Yup. Right in front. You don't gain from any 'ram pod' theory, it's a load of crock. As the Autospeed article says, it's possible to see gains from reducing pressure drops through a system. Most people here have used some dodgy corrugated piping which won't be any better than the factory snorkle. I suspect TH_Smoker's might be an alright piece of hardware though.
