Was thinking of trying this out with a switch, if it didn't work out i'd just flick the switch. Was also thinking of keeping it in ordinary mode and then at traffic lights switch it to fast switch mode. Is there much difference between the 1st gen tranny ecu and the 2nd gen tranny ecu?
What do the experts think of the resistor set up? does it REALLY prolong the life of the tranny, i woulda thought harder shifting would result in more wear and tear.

Can anyone post a picture of the TR's tranny ECU layout, i'll give it a go!

Yes I think the 2nd gen became a whole lot smarter. So I have doubts that technique will work, but hey someone should have a go at it anyway!

heh had to see this thread..... pleanty of info on the web, wether it be mechanical mod or electrical mod the same idea applies. see http://www.shiftkits.com.au/ (commerical available kits) same principle but they have a few more resistors to trick "learning ECUs" ie pretty much newer cars 3rd gen magnas, falcons, holdens etc. i dont think 2nd gen was all that smart technology wise are u talkin bout the 6cyl or the 4cyl 2nd gen?

"The module alters the signal the engine / transmission control unit provides to the transmission to control the line pressure. By slightly increasing the line pressure, the transmission changes harder from one gear to the next. This not only reduces heat generated within the clutches and bands in the transmission, but also will increase transmission life and reduce wear."

the only reason this is not stock is because of comfort. the avg user would not want this in their car.

I'm talking about the 4 cylinder. Ok so assuming the tranny ecus are very similar and both have pulse generator B's, all i'd need is a gregorie picture of the slots so that i could work out which pin to hook into. Can anyone please scan this is in and upload those of you who have the TR gregories manual. Thanks! I might as well give this a whirl.

I was going to make this for my 99 Diamante. I just have been busy with my other project which is a Galant VR4 (Turbo,Awd,Aws,5 speed). So you can see why I stopped bothering with the Diamante.

Anyway on to the point, it is easy to increase firmness. All you really have to do is lower the throttle % to the Tcu. If you notice when you accellerate at 25% throttle it shifts much faster. Thats because it keeps the line pressure much higher at lower TPS %. So the way I was going to do it is install a WOT swtich. Wire it to a Relay, wire the relay to a resistor or Potentiometer which leads to the TPS wire going into the TCU. I would have to figure out the value of resisitor or the potentiometer settings. But it would only be active at WOT which is the only time I would want it active. If I used a Pot it would be adjustable firmness but I would probably have it at almost maximum setting all the time. If I am going WOT it is for a reason, and I want the fastest firmest shift possible. Now I have not actually done this yet however I know it would work. I can relicate it with my right foot, it will shift a lot firmer if I let off throttle just before it shifts at 5800rpm when at WOT then plant it back down. It's hard to do without the circuit inline but I have gotten a badass shift from 1-2 lifting and pressing at the right time. When it gets warmer here I plan on doing this and I will post results then. I just noticed this thread so I thought I would share my insight. Oh and from what I have read about other cars, it will in fact help more than hurt.
