After finnishing brendans CAI for his Carbi I had an idea that the same idea could be used for the V6 model EFI motor. Put a small bonnet vent right above the STD airbox then channel the air from the bonnet vent down into the stock intake hole. Simple and when replaced with a K&N pannel filter and straight (not rippled) hose from the AFM to the TB (minus snorkles) you would definatly notice a good drop in intake temperatures

i was considering this but i couldn't find a vent that i wanted, did have a 280zx turbo one lined up but didnt come through. I know you are using a scoop which is better, but vents are cool :P Who does all teh work on TM's car? i thought he did, but you always say you, i'm confused.

bonnet vents can be subtle, offset ones look tough i reckon. ill show you the vent i would install

i know its a charade but you get the picture
would be 10 fold more effective than ducting

thats wen u get vents instead of scoops. put one either side on the bonnet, cold air still gets in... will look good cause there is one on either side.

The stock air intake and filter will do the same thing, mitsubishi have been building cars for 50 years and their designs will always be far superior to anything you come up with... :bowrofl:

That's not really true. At least not for other manufacturers, and I don't see why Mitsubishi should be special. There's an article on AutoSpeed showing how the dude reduced the restrictions in his factory Audi intake by more than half.

what about when it rains wouldn't it go straight into your air box, unlike CAI to your front bar where the water would have to travel up

i only say it because for the most, people on here dont really do a good enough job to actualy make any high figures. if your not going to do it right why bother?

bonnet grilles push away the water when driving, and when stationary there isn't enough water to be any problem what so ever

what about when you park in the rain with vents? if it pisses down does it drip onto the engine or hows it kept out ??
i've been thinking of doing cold air via a bonnect scoop for a bit, just cant be stuffed to work at it....

you dont have the filter DIRECTLY under the vent now do you.

no, but if parked wouldn't the water follow the piping straight into your airbox and pool there? not saying water will be sucked into your throttle body but still you don't want water pooling in your airbox............

it would obviously be designed better than this :doubt:

drill small holes in the low points of the airbox. that's wat ive done and it works perfect. dont forget i actually have a SCOOP which will suck in more water than any vent would

I remember Tbutcher having an Evo VI type bonnet on his old ride, I wonder if he used the vents and offset scoop to his advantage as far as air intake was concerned and what benefits he saw if any?

The vent's might have had some cooling benefits. The intake was purely cosmetic.
