I'm sometimes finding it hard to shift on my 5 speed TN gear box I'm not getting any crunching of gears but the stick just sometimes sticks and refuses to move it happens between 1st 2nd & 3rd any ideas?? Is it the linkage, gearbox or clutch??

change your gearbox fluid, squirt and work into the linkage cables some thin oil and make sure the bushes at the selector (where it pivots and where the cable attaches to the selector) are not worn.

thats about all you can do, cost 50 bucks but i reckon your gearbox will feel like a brand new one. :D

Yeah make sure you give the linkages on the shifter a good oil! Gearbox oil is expensive ****, you only need 3 litres or so (i made the mistake of buying 6 :S)

cant hurt to do a flush, its not THAT expencive. only as expencive as a good motor oil.

VMX80 is suffice for your gearbag. you may notice a bit of notchyness for a week when its cold but once it gets warm a few times its going to feel like its a new box

OK replaced the gear box oil, I asked on another thread where the fill plug was on the gearbox I was told it was on the front of the box a 17mm fill plug, but the fill plug was seized and would not move even using a breaker bar!!!!

Anyway I found a 19mm plug on top of the gearbox case near to where the clutch cable is, and filled the box from there, the box filled(slowly) but seemed to work is it ok to use this method of filling the box?

I also used some gear up additive which seems to have help heaps.

filler plug is on the front towards the transmission mount side. a airpupm or something emissions related needs to be removed to get to it. how much fluid did you put in?

When i did mine i filled it with the one at the front, it was tight but i just put a ring spanner on and belted it with a hammer and it came off no worries...

Yeah if you fill it from the top the possability of over filling or under filling is possible...

I put in just over 2.5ltrs, which I measured so should be good.

Do a tranny gear fluid change aswell as bleed your clutch system like you would brakes. also adjust the pedal on the inside of the car so there is only the smallest amount of slack, there will be a bolt on the top of the pedal, its to adjust it so the pedal is almost putting pressure onto the slave cylinder

ps its TC

changed my GB oil yesterday, drain plug if i had to guess would be 24mm fill plug is 17mm, fillerplug is just to the left of the slave cyl looking from the front of the car, the gearbox takes 2.5l befor it starts running back out the filler hole, i used the drink bottle and 10mm hose trick to fill mine :) dont know when mine was done last but it was a deep drown color.

Got my ****ing pinging problem back again < 3000rpm i think i dont have enought back presure ive chainged MAF,TPS,O2S i think ill put my Legal Cat back on and see what happens  or wait 2 weeks for when the new system with commodore v6 cat and see how i go but im open to ideas

i know a car which does this exact same thing, no matter where the timing is, no matter what is done  can i suggest getting a few cans of carbi cleaner and spraying them into the TB while the car is running. my theory (probably wrong) is that the piston and head in the combustion chamber are covered in enough carbon to increase compression enough for it to ping. it also doesn't allow correct cooling of the piston and head which also could be the cause.

spray the cans of carbi cleaner in while revving the motor, try have it so you have 1/4 throttle but its still not revving much because the carbi cleaner doesn't burn properly. THEN get a selector spray bottle and empty a 1:3 metho water mix into it aswell about 1L of it. that might help get some of the caked on stuff off. it u can, try hook up a water injection system for a week or so. even just from your washer bottle or something like that. it works wonders on the piston crown and will help stop pinging. it steam cleans the motor at the same time.

pinged worse than ever yesterday seems to be worse on hot days, but on the way to work today it was fine and ran really sweet got me stuffed if i it boils down to carbon ill get the head shaved and it cleaned off while im at it no spare cash for it at the moment all my pennys are going on the lukey system monday i had a chat to the exhaust guy today going 2.25" from the flex pipe into the commodore cat no resinator down to a lukey ultra flow, probly wont go sick on the head but bring it up to the same compression as a 2nd gen, may get the injectors checked also. it had a tin of carby cleaner about 2 months back.
