Well today i decided to finish off my box completely and im very happy with the results.

Cutting the perspex was a little bit of a paint lots of sanding to get the sides near see thru took some time.

Also i never thought doing vinyl was soooooo easy, any fool could do it, I used the glue that u would use on laminex and it worked perfectly.

And the last part of the box still to do is a black light or blue neon shining into the box.

The last pic is of a before and the others are the after. So give me ur opinions

looks like youv done a good job there tom,
just carpet the outside of the box as it will blend in better with the boot when its installed, and if you put a neon in the box make sure you can only see the glow so you might need add some bits inside the box to do this, or if your putting the neon outside the box in the boot put it up high where no one can see it.
nice work
cheers

The perspex is held in by screws not cable ties, well and there are lots of screws too. lol

Im gonna leave it as it is and have the black vinyl as i like it a lot.
Im gonna have the neon hidden out of the way so u wont be able to see it, but i still gotta wait for jb hi-fi to get more blacklights in.

The next thing i might do is make a cover for the cone to avoid damage using my leftover perspex lots of it and i might make a mitsubishi symbol on it the size of the cone 12" and maybe put some leds in the perspex too.

Also how have ppl here braced the box in their boots, as i dont know how to mount it in there so it dosent move.

I know....mine's fixed in two bits of mdf, screwed and liquid nailed into the boot floor

I'm a genius :P you know the pice of masonite thats sitting above your spare wheel, under the carpet? Lift it up, and you should see two metal clips. These are sitting at the front part of the spare wheel hole. They stop the piece of masonite sliding forward. Anyways, unscrew the two clips, find some 9mm or 12mm mdf, cut them to a square, about 50x50 drill a hole, make sure its countersunk...and using the existing screw and existing hole, screw the pieces of mdf back on, and pump some liquid nails under there....

There you go...all you need to do now, is just put some screws thru the bottom of your sub box into those mdf blocks..beautiful :D

All in all, excellent work with the box! Nice and clean..and neat. Pfff, vinyling is easy, any fool could do it :gtfo: You had it easier coz u have a heat gun and proper glue! :P btw, clean cutting with the vinyl inside the sub box, around the sub basket. If i had too much time and vinyl left over...cut out a perfect circle and stick it over the stuff...or cut out some 3mm mdf, vinyl it, and glue it on

eek thanks for the info on mounting it u just gave me some ideas.

The hole was easy to do put a plate down into the hole trace around it, then use a stanley knife to cut it out. The flaps that go into the box from the vinyl around the sub were measured using a golf ball box lol to make sure each piece was the same, then i used the stanley knife to cut them.

The vinyl aound the back of the box was cut using a very very very sharp knife which i spent a while sharpening.

And vinyling is easy and fools can do it, i had a heat gun but i used it once and saw no difference so i just used the suns warmth to heat up the vinyl  and i didnt have to use electricity for it.

Here your go eek, u can have what ever is left ( almost none left ) :D
At the start i had nearly full.

This is the glue that u put it on the two surfaces and wait till it is touch dry then put the two pieces together.

Also petrol cleans the paint brush very well too.

i wish i had a b1tch on the back seat of my car :( :D

Nah looks really great. Any custom job you do for your car is best. Id love to move my sub into a box that custom fits along the whole back part of the boot with matching carpetting, led's, whattver. .. but... when does one have time >.<

Tom, have u "fixed" your sub in the boot using string? lol

It looks like it. Reminds me when i did exactly that, tied string from one of the screws in the sub surrounding, through to the cabin one side, under and along the back seat, then back into the boot the other side and tied onto another screw on the sub surrounding.

Did the trick! :P

HAHAHAHAHA yeah the sub box is held in the boot by string  its a temporary solution until i make something to hold it in properly. And my string wasnt as well held in as yours Tim-E my string goes around sub and thru ski port and thats it.

My dad brought some steel poles from work for me to make my sub cover and i might try that first as cutting the mitsubishi logo in perspex would take some time.
ill prob have two pieces of perspex holding in the steel poles just above the sub so hopefully ill have that done some time this weekend.

Ill stop by JB hi-fi very soon and see if they have any blacklights so i can see if my paint glows.

LoL yeah my dog decided he wanted to sit up there and make a mess with his hair.

UV reactive paint isn't the greatest stuff to use..you have to be almost perfect with its application to get a good, even glow..

steel poles ay...get me some! lol

Well i finally found me a black light. YAY!!!!!

But the stupid paint in the box dosent glow   or its just too bright during the day will check it later tonight, hopefully its just its too bright but if not ill be looking to find some UV reactive paint or something that will glow.

At least some of my shoes glow esp the thread where they were sewn and the tongue. lol
