just wondering

te-tj magna's why is there a full "U" bend in the extractors from one side, would be have been better to make it straight, less piping??

or is it there to keep the same lenght for both sides of the extractors??

also how are the aftermarket ones differ from standard they look similar??

thanks

isnt is the longer the pipes the more torque they produce???

"Tuned Length" ... I think so the gasses get to the same point in the exhaust at the same time...
Thats what I reckon.

Yep it's the tuned length.

That way the pipes are the exact same length.

I think that provides more torque.

I think that provides more torque.
More torque and more power because the exhaust is getting out of the engine more efficently thus creating more efficency resulting in more torque and power

Yeah, you can get pretty technical with extractors or headers. Then you start talking about pulses where the tuned length is important. Subaru have redesigned the new Liberty's exhaust so that the pipes from the same side aren't the ones that merge. In this case, they are mated with the opposite cylinders so spacing between each pulse is even to allow the cleanest working system. It's probably not quite as important with a 6 cyl as timing between cylinders is probably greater, but it would be desirable.
