my advice to you is go to local mitsu dealer and buy the oil and filter its not as dear as you might think it was costing me more with the oil i was using before hand
i am unsure of the particlular type of oil but if you tell mitsu you are doing an oil change they will get ya out of trouble
hope this helps

my mitsu use castrol
i dunno what mitsu use.....but for a 1992 TR, i highly recommend Penrite HPR30.....madmagna recommended it to me and i have used it ever since......definately the best oil i've ever used in the magna and i have tried at least 8 different oils...

Dunno about the 2nd and 1st gens but mitsu use Magnatec for the third gens, so you'll have no problems.

My dealer uses castrol gtx3. Asked if I could use semi synthetic, said 10w40 was cool and go for it. I'll supply that at next service and change oil myself in between.

Genuine oil and filter are very well priced (eg; cheap). Most dealers if not all of them would buy there oil in bulk and most likley use Castrol. But Aussie regulations state that all oil of the same weight must be compatable with each other so it is ok to mix, not that I would.
Coolant, power steer and auto tranny fluid is a different thing all together. Do not for any reason mix differnt brands of coolant, some might be ok to mix, but the mitsi stuff is not one of them, it has an additive in it that may react with another brand and eat you radiator out. Most vehicles you can use the same fluid for power steer and auto tranny, this is not the case with mitsi vehicles. They use different types of o-rings in the different systems and using the wrong fluid may cause the o-rings to fail.

I use it, its the best priced semi synth oil i know of. and its the correct weight for the majority of engines. i use 15w40 just because ive got a turbo, and the synthetic oil will coke less. 15w50 is ideal for your motor tho, hence why mitsu use it i guess

Has anyone used Castrol R Synthetic. I got it in the engine now and I like it. Seems very smooth.

you cant feel a difference between two engine oils by foot or hand, more the placebo effect. as long as you keep the oil at the specified level and no thinner and change regularly, oils and brands dont really matter untill you get into top end machines.

Everyone that i have done services for all have said the motor has run smoother, quieter and reved better with Penrite.
When doing a change also the old oil is a lot cleaner than the castrol, mobil or other brands for that matter.
As discussed in a previous post, some years back I sent several samples of oil, all about 500k old to get analised, the penrite and penzoil both passes, Shell was the worst, Castrol was the second followed by Valvoline. all three had high acid contents, metal suspension etc

its kinda the same as spark plugs, you only replace it because they are failing, so when the new ones go in the motor feels much better. funny that ;)
oil gets thin when old, tappets dont adjust like they should, chains arnt lubed like they should be and the motor gets a little noisy. put in the new oil and its nice and thick and they go away.

Yes, here we go again,
There are various qualities of most product ranges, having said what you said does that mean I should use recycled oil in a car?
And btw, spark plugs do ot only get replaced when they are failing, they do wear. A bit like the rubber band in your Charade
Oil qualities do vary, as does the quality of most parts, to say any part is the same as the next is simply ignorant. Then again I have only been in the trade since I was 16 so what would I know :D

im not saying they are all the same, im saying that between the brands of similar grade oils that there is no way you would be able to tell which is in which motor by listening to it. i know you can feel a difference in power between 0w20 and 40w70 oils in motors by the feel. but does that mean we should all put in 0w20 into our cars?

I use Penrite too :D I've been using it in all of my cars over the last 12 years except for a brief period when I tried Mobil 1. I've found Penrite to be the best.

Service departments use whatever they get cheapest, Ours uses Caltex oil. Genuine Mit's oil is BP oil
