I am trying to replace the stereo in a TE. I have tried with a little success and alot of doubt :doubt:. My main problem seems to be with accessing the stock stereo (radio/cassette). I have tried to remove the centre console but felt like I may break something if a pull a little to hard. Can anyone tell me the center console is removeable by removing the ash trey and unscrewing the 4 screws found here. Then removing the console by pulling it upwards?
I can seem to access the remove centre console article in the technical article sections either  ?
Any help would be apreciated.

I started dismantelling mine from the top (air vents). i think there are two clips on the sides that your forcefully pull out. theyre located roughly on the bottom half of the left and right sides. Once you pull that top part off, you can poke your nose down, and there should be a few screws on the top left and right.... you just make your way down, unscrewing THEN pulling ;) lifting the console part up, before lifting it out towards you.
you will need to d/c a plug (its obvious - you will see it) when you go to remove the 2nd part from the top (the buttons and fan speed dials).
bascically i worked from top to bottom. You wont need to remove the ashtray/cig part of the console to access the radio/cassette.

 Um you DO need to remove the ashtray part, otherwise you'll snap the two mounting pips. See pic. But you need to get the console/coin tray part out first.
You also got to remove part of the lower dash under the wheel and right panel of the centre console to get to where the vent cable connects. Otherwise you'll stuff up the air-circulation part.
Finally Mitsu really torques the bolts that hold the radio in, so get a good screw driver or be prepared to drill if you strip the head.
:O
Sorry i guess you might have to... just all the times ive done it, ive never encountered any resistance :| they may of been broken prior to my purchase - ill have to go check it out tomorrow then :D

Hmm, working from bottom to top is pretty easy. (and safer I would think)
Take out the centre console (open glove box, pull up from that end), then remove ashtray, then rip out the ashtray surround (two clips holding it in, will be hard first time, gets easier after that) then you'll be able to pull out the centre dash with all the controls a few centimetres. Be careful not to break anything.
LOOSEN (dont undo) the two screws at the top of this (below the vents) and it should all come out.
Remove the plooms, (remember to plug em back in)
All straight forward after that
