hey guys'n'girls,

finally got the time to snap some new pics of my car, just been washed and cleaned inside.

mainly took these pics so ppl can see my tailight tint job and cannon, plus ive despoilered it now too, enigne needs work tho, needs a clean and some small things attended to...
also got some bad rust along the bottom of my doors, any1 got advice on how to repair it and stop it happening again??

BTW..is anyone entering their magna's in the EVO/GSR show'n'shine ova the easter weekend in Adelaide, they apparently have a Magna section (Stock and Modded), i was thinking about it.....we should get a group together and all enter?? Mad Lante has more details if u want them...

anyway, here is the link to the pics

Probably cheaper to find a set of new doors at the wreckers... labour & repaint ain't cheap.

I'd pull out & throw away those square rubber bungs at the bottom of the doors.
They do little but block up the water that gets down the doors... discovered that
the first time we washed the damned thing after pickup from the dealers.

how do you tint the rear lights like that?

magnamayhem
28-02-2005, 06:40 PM
the way i did it was:

took out the rear tailights, including the centre bit, (pull back the black covering in ur boot, undo all the plugs for the globes and there will b bolts going around the the light), once then r out, just give a clean with a cloth and some galss cleaner or something along those lines, get urself a can of Night Shdes from Autobarn for $15, and spray them. do it evenly ie one layer at a time and allow them to dry between each layer, also overlap each spray, do it in horizontal lines holding the can about 10-15cm away, i did 2 coats on mine and thats plenty dark enough....

make sure u tape up any parts u dont want sprayed

Well, large areas with heaps of rust is cut out with angle grinder and weld with oxy welder a new bit of steel from behind... then i fair/fill it with polyester car bog and sand it to the shape you want (if you do a good job, it wont be noticable, it takes patience... (only had to do this in two places... over each back wheel)

if it's a hole or a few holes together, i grind away the rust with a dremel (grind from both sides if possible), and treat it with rust convertor... then i just use bog to fill the holes (or glass filler, it's stronger if you need to layer it more than 3mm think) and sand to shape...

you need to paint it though... if you dont, it'll just rust again... i put etch primer and then primer filler (no topcoat), but even then - primer is porous cos it's single pack... so it will rust eventually through the primer... i need money for topcoat!!

Thats the basics... if you got any questions/comments - ask!

Cheers,
Bill

yeah, but how do i reapir the rust in my doors tho, cos i cant really weld a new peice of metal behind it...

i was thinking just grind it all out with an angle grinder and fill it with bog? would the hole be to big tho

new doors my friend. there is too much rust to remove properly and still be cheaper than a new door. u could do it sus but it would come back for sure, i know... i owned a fairlane. :bowrofl:

that might be true... i'm fixing 2 out of my 4 doors... the other two it was easier to get other doors... the only problem you have it colour of the doors.

your in SA... maybe one day i'll see your car and see how bad it really is

magnamayhem

well that was my only other option, get 4 new doors, but becos my paint is 15yrs old and faded, im gonna have to get a respray, will cost about $1500 to get it done by Salisbury Paint & Panel nextdoor to where i work, or i can buy a compressor and spray gun + paint and do the respray myself whih would cost bout $600 for compressor, gun and paint

if your doing a backyard job theres no point buying a $600 compressor. Just get one of those $120 GMC ones and get an acc. kit. My mate did his car with one and it worked a treat

no way, those useless little things dont hold enough air to blow a pencil of a table. 2+hp and around the 60L min.

Aggh well i have seen someone replace all the connections on it cos the standard ones are dodge and spray there car without fail. Paint job was a good standard for a backyard job. So i beg to differ.
