For a long time I've had really noisy brakes so I took my car to a local mechanic and they said my front pads were worn and needed replacing. They replaced the pads but after a few hundred kays the noise came back.
Is there any cure for this?

There are two approaches to lowering brake noise, the first is changing braking materials as these can cause squealing and the second is lowering dust levels around your pads.
A few of methods that I can think of are
1: Change pad materials, go for a softer/harder material
2: Change discs, go for slotted rotors - this is a fairly extreme solution though.
3: Make sure your pads have a slot in the middle, not sure if magna pads do or not, but the slot helps to reduce dust collection that causes the squealing.
4: Wurth sell a product that you spray onto the brake pad which is supposed to supress dust collection and eliminate noise, not sure if it works though, never used it.
Hope this helps

There is an orange adhesive you use on brake pads, this with a little graphite grease where the pad contacts the caliper should help solve your problem.
You can also cut a slot accross your pad, do not go right through though, we used to do this to the Subaru's and ovloV's.
Either that or don't brake, use the handbrake instead :bowrofl:

That thought crossed my mind but passengers start to get a bit squeamish when I reach for the handbrake

I love slotted Rotors Improves Braking preformance heaps i got em all round after 10k stops much quicker and never any noise. thyre not that expensive either $120 a rotor.

One of the great things about changing over from my old TH, is not having squealing brakes on my Ralliart! It used to drive me nuts.
I took my old car to a couple of brake places and the Mitsu dealer, and beyond putting new rotors and different non standard pads on (ie. like vrxbeachboy), nobody could help me. Apparently brake noise is a common problem on the TE to TJ Magnas.
Thankfully, the Ralliart brakes are as quiet as... :D

Might have to look into the slotted rotors then.
Cheers.

I've got the same problem on my TF, what do you mean by slicing them? I'm presuming you mean top to bottom? Why not go right through(to the end of the pad, not into two pieces)?
I'm new to modifing if you can't tell...

Machine disks. (I replaced mine it was cheaper).
Replace pads with Bendix Ultimates.
Noise gone.
