by failing do u mean wareing out??
if so the cluch will slip taking off from hills
you will also know it by pushin it in this may seem werid but its hard to expain
a good cluch pedel will be kinda of hard to push in till mid way then it feels like its easyer to push from there on to the floor
a dud one like mine lol will just be normal all the way to the floor it wont hit a point where its easer to hold if that makes any sense at all
yer also if the pedal is spungy that can also mean its on its way out

Yeah its strange. I cant really tell if my clutch is gone or not. Last time i got my car serviced, (about 3 weeks ago) the dude said that the clutch is fine.
Even when my sister had the car they never got the clutch changed. They had the car for around 1 year and i have had it for around 3 so 4 years and the clutch hasnt been changed

gears slipping, with the clutch fully down gears still grind, not going into gear, whinding noise, any other strange noises from the gearbox area are general type stuff
maybe strange smells after driving? im not completely sure, ive not had one die on me yet

the more a clutch wears, the less the distance the pedal has to be pushed to disengage the clutch. a new clutch set up properly will engage with the pedal about 1inch above the floor a worn clutch might not engage till the pedal is a few inches off the floor. a worn clutch can shudder, the most noticable sign is clutch slipage when under full throttle.
A worn gear box might be:
Noisy in some or all gears usually worse when engine braking.
louder in neutral with the clutch out.
Hard to select gears especially when cold
worn syncros will cause a grind on gear changes.
manual trans tend not to change smell like autos can unless they have got very hot
most clutches are replaced due to slipping from lack of friction material or shuddering from worn clutch dampners

Sounds like my syncro on the 2/3rd gear are worn work fixing or should I just get the whole gear box replaced???
Will 1988 manual gear box fit my 1990 wagon??? What is the make\model number of the gear box anyone know?
Once other thing when removing the fill plug on the gear box do I turn it clock wise or anti clockwise to loosen as mine is siezed up and want to make sure I'm trying to move it the correct way.
KM210 is the TN/P manual gearbox. They're both identical with respect to each other. The TM (KM184) will not work in a later model car.

yes they are. small differences.
however, if you really look into it tm parts can be retro fitted to tn-p. but the question is
why would you want to.

you can out in a stronger box from another model into a tm, its just more work, coz different setup. its more an issue if you put a diff engine in a tm, coz diff parts are required. (eg fuel pump)
The TM block is close enough for the later models. The KM210 is bigger than the KM184 is, so there's a real estate issue, and a few other differences. My block came from a leaded TM...
