Hi there.
I drive a 98 Advance, it isnt actually my OWN car, its my parents but i was told tonight that i could buy it off them if i wanted to.
And here is where my question lies.
I was told by a mate of mine that i should NOT mod the magna cus it is a family car, i think its a pretty good car and if im able to do what eva i want to it then i think i should. It would be my first car and i thinks thats alright considering how much of a nice car they are.
Just asking for your thoughts on the matter.
Should i mod the magna (Kit, Interior, Engine) over time.
OR
Should i sell the car and buy something else.
cheers.

call me shortsighted but the last time i looked both the falcon and commodore were also family cars lol
basicly if you like the car and want to modify it then its your choice and to do it the way you want as you are the person who will be driving it

Hi Kyle
Unless you wanna spend a lot of money there isnt a heap you can do to the engine. I only just got a TH Sports and have spend the past week or so stuck in front of the screen reading countless threads on pros/cons of all sorts of mods. This is what Ive gathered so far...
Common mods are:
ENGINE
CAI
Extractors (lot of money for not a whole lot of gain...)
Freeflow exhaust/cat (mandral bent, good investment)
The TJ Sport rear muffler will give you about +15kw extra with the stock exhaust setup (on the 3.5ltr, not sure about the 3.0)
Chip (expensive, very mixed results/opinions)
Ground throttle body
BODY
Bigger rims/tyres
Strut/sway bars (seemed to be a very popular and a not very expensive mod)
Struts/springs
Body Kit (expensive and not all look good)
Sound system
I only got my TH sports on friday and love it, but wont be spending big bucks on go fast bits, as its not worth it. It is a sporty family car, not a high performance sports car, there is a difference. I mainly am going to focus on the sound system and looks. Will probably do things like exhaust, CAI, lowering, sway bars and maybe rims (if ive got any money left!).
I sold (well am trying to sell) my Skyline and got the magna as I was getting sick of trying to maintain and and spending money on a modified performance car.
If you get the magna, appreciate it for what it is. Sure play with it a bit, but dont waste big bucks, its not worth it. You have to ask yourself what you want from your car. But hey its better than my first car (180B!! :) ) If you want decent cheap performance, buy a nissan import (or a vl if you dont mind being branded a bogun). If you want a reasonably quick stock car thats comfortable, practical and insurable, go the magna.
P.S. Or you can buy my Skyline!! :D
Hope that helps.... far out ive just written an essay!!!... sorry

I PERSONALY (my input only) wouldn't mod a auto, but if its a manual there are a fair few cheap mods you can do to get pretty good times out of them! more than enough to beat the auto Commas and Falcons, and some of the manual ones too. I also wouldn't do body kits and interior but thats just cos i dont like it and think its tacky.
first mod would be lowered with new springs and shocks. then a aftermarket ecu. building block for any mad car.

I think if i was to mod it it would only be for looks and a zorst for looks/sound.
Mods that have been done to it so far are a new set of rims (Nice rims, just not big enough) wider tyres, lowered to a good ride hight. decent stereo and thats it so far, Oh cept for the painting of the front grille the other day (Looks hot as, will get pics soon).
So i just dont know, as i want a WRX (you all probly hate em) but ive always wanted one and i will own one some day, maybe i should just leave the magna as it is and save for a rex.

fair enough, if you wanted you can keep an eye onthe ford forums for a set of nice wheels. lowering for looks just takes 240 dollars worth of springs and u leave ur shocks std, tip is easy too, have a pretty tidy magna
is it auto or manual?
i like wrx's btw :P

yeah ide take it easy with the engine mods, your behind the eight ball from the start. get it to a level you want but if your not going to have it long remeber that money into a car is as good as thrown away, it rarely increase sale price.
