Hi there. First, of all, im new to the group. I bought a 95 model TR wagon on the weekend, and the sound system is crap. (the front speakers click and the HU has no balls). I will be ditching the front dash mounted speakers, and replacing them with door mounted ones (following the steps from other threads), and replacing the rear speakers too. (They are roof mounted). What are people's experiences with replacing the rear speakers. They are crappy 6" paper cones. I am thinking of Sony 6s or something. Maybe 6x9s with a bit of modification. Any input welcomed. Thanks

Sony, ouch.. .I would recommend against any sony speakers and subs.
Better off going other cheapo stuff. Jaycar range whips Sony imo.
Best bet is not using 7x10's as they are impossible to sell later, 6x9's if ur desperate and want a bit more bass behind you (eg not running subs)
But in terms of quality 6.5" speakers will be your best bet, Speakers are meant to be round, Oval shaped speakers are only designed like this to get the most cone area out of your parcel shelf.
Welcome to the forums

Jaycar ones eh? I was considering getting a couple of cheapie ones to replace the front dash speakers (coz they click!), and do the door speakers when I have a free afternoon. Anyone know what the sound quality is like for the rear speakers?

Focus on ur fronts. Install some 6 or 6.5" splits if you can afford them. Go second hand if you cant afford em.

Yeah, price isnt too much of a problem, just gotta fix some things first. Had the front tyres and the left CV boot replaced. (The tyres were past illegal - "It passed rego, so I didnt need to replace them" said the previous owner, and the CV boot had a big split in it - was noticed in the pink slip inspection details, but again, stupid owner didnt do anything about). I also need to replace the rear pads (had 2mm of rubber on them when checked for rego in october), and mashine the front and rear discs. The previous owner had the front pads changed in october, but didnt get the discs mashined. He had no technical knowledge. He didnt know how to change a tyre! So anyway, once I get the brakes fixed up, I will start looking at fixing up the system. Probably a couple of weeks.

welcome mate! anyways ur lucky u hav rear speakers in ur wagon, wen we bought our TS, it was only a crappy HU with 2 4" front speakers... we replaced the HU and are running 2 6x9's at the rear in 2 huge boxes! sounds really good though so im happy
oh and my brother removed the front speakers and added tweeters... still running without front speakers which is a bit of a bother for me but my system still rips my friends accords 1 :D

yeah, im gonna put jaycar 4" speakers in the front (they are the only ones that will fit without modification, and to be honest, i cant be bothered), kenwood 6"s in the front (after cutting door trim), kenwood 5"s in the back, and my bro is at my to put 2 12" subs in aswell. All that would be hooked up to a decent sized head unit. But, as said in a previous message, gotta fix certain parts on the car first.... :headbange
In my kr wagon i got 7x10's and cut some space in the boot they go hard and was easy enough to do i have em running at 60 watts each, i have an automatic boot close now because the speakers weigh it down too much  it sucks having a wagon for sound cause theres too much air flow will post some pics

Ditch the rear speakers for a small sub, together with 6inch splits... that'll fix your wagon ( john wayne :bowrofl: )
all up in my car i got a kenwood headunit wit mp3 a 12 inch 175watt rms sub runin at 120watts, 5 1/2" 3 ways in the roof and 6 inch 3 ways in the front both runin of headunit and the 7x10's runin at 60 watts each.
its loud but the more i work on the sound the louder i want to go :P

i put response precision 5 inch speakers in the roof, they only just fit with the mdf spacers i made. youd be pushin to try and fit any type of 6x9 or bigger in the roof, plus that will just detract from the sub bass coz youve got so much room in the back for plenty of bass boxes. The 6.5 inch splits in the front kick ass with the tweeters mounted where the old 4" went in the front of the dash... use the room wisely... its very very fun..

Stick with Jaycar and Pioneer, Kenwood are just plain crap and will leave you dissapointed..
