I took my V6 TS in to get new lifters on my car for the 3rd time today, about an hr later they called me to say I need new camshaft coz its got wear marks, pitted and worn! I have phoned around, and was told it is from serious driver abuse! I dispute that coz its a 1 owner car, and has never ever been abused whatsoever!! they said if i put the new lifters in without the new cam, the lifters would wear out in no time!! Im really confused????????????

How many kays has it done, because lifters have a limited life, and if they pass that they will wear the cam/s :( but driver abuse is crap - it will happen over time, they're wearing parts just like cylinder walls.

Sorry dude

it has done 140,000ks! The first set of lfters was done about 90,000ks, they didnt last long, now its ticking louder and louder, so i got my mech to put new ones in, and he told me about the cams! I went and looked at it, it was tiny pitt marks and very light scratches, so i told them NOT to go ahead with cams!

The problem with the cams can be caused by crap oil as well.

The cams would have to be very worn to cause the lifters to give up early like that though.

They may also be cheap lifters as there are some out there that are very average. Also improper bleeding can damage them when they are installed causing them to start getting noisy quickly

Hey all! well i picked up me car today, didn't worry bout getting the cams done, coz mitsubishi said it's "un heard" of replacing the cams on it coz thy are made to last???? Well now when I picked it up from having new lifters put in, the car is blowing blue smoke something shockin!!! It wasn't blowing any when i put it in! They tried to blame it on me and said it was like that when i took the car too them, but it wasnt! They said it is the valve guides, or the smoke will go away, coz the motor has been through a "major" repair (lifter replacement) and its normal to blow blue smoke after engine work! Im so mega pissed off, coz they want $1500 to replace valve guides and send heads away!!! The thing is, it wasn't blowing any at all till i took it to them!! WHAT HAPPENED??? and will this go away like they reckon?? Dam pissed off

**update** Howdy! Well yesterday I drove me car down to me folks place (about 35min drive) I checked all fluid levels b4 i went, and had a full tank of gas! Well on the drive down the car was blowing blue smoke sumthing shocking, has never blown any smoke till those idiots stuffed around with it, and it felt real sluggish!! When I got to folks the car had used half a tank of petrol (on a 35 min drive, doing between 60 and 80 km) it used a fair bit of oil, both are extremely rare for my car!! I have never had to top up my oil before!! So anyway I took it to another one of those chain service centre, i told them what happened, they looked at it and couldn't believe there guys (from a different centre) had done to it!! Funny enough the state rep was at that shop on that day i went there!! After them making calls, i was told the other idiot mechanics bent valves and stuffed a cpl of other things, and where hiding it from me!! I was advised not to drive it home because the motor was in danger of blowing!! They have to get an engineer in, and look over it, so im outright refusing to pay a dam cent!!
I am so mega pissed off!! I couldn't believe mechanics I trusted, and have been to for ages, and thrown alot of business there way could lie to me, damage parts, put it back together, not tell me, and try and get more money outa me to fix it, and blame me for driver abuse to cover there own ass! Not happy!

To bend valves while simply taking a set of rockers off and changing lash adjusters is a feat in itself that only an inept wan(er could achieve.

They have obviously made a huge mistake, I would say when they removed the rockers the cam lifted as I would imagine they tried to do the job with the cams in. This can be done however is not recommended by any means.

Also they may have incorrectly adjusted the cam timing as well.
