I took my V6 TS in to get new lifters on my car for the 3rd time today, about an hr later they called me to say I need new camshaft coz its got wear marks, pitted and worn! I have phoned around, and was told it is from serious driver abuse! I dispute that coz its a 1 owner car, and has never ever been abused whatsoever!! they said if i put the new lifters in without the new cam, the lifters would wear out in no time!! Im really confused????????????

Hey all! well i picked up me car today, didn't worry bout getting the cams done, coz mitsubishi said it's "un heard" of replacing the cams on it coz thy are made to last???? Well now when I picked it up from having new lifters put in, the car is blowing blue smoke something shockin!!! It wasn't blowing any when i put it in! They tried to blame it on me and said it was like that when i took the car too them, but it wasnt! They said it is the valve guides, or the smoke will go away, coz the motor has been through a "major" repair (lifter replacement) and its normal to blow blue smoke after engine work! Im so mega pissed off, coz they want $1500 to replace valve guides and send heads away!!! The thing is, it wasn't blowing any at all till i took it to them!! WHAT HAPPENED??? and will this go away like they reckon?? Dam pissed off

You should take it to another mechanic and get a second opinion (examination). Make sure they are MTA approved.

**update** Howdy! Well yesterday I drove me car down to me folks place (about 35min drive) I checked all fluid levels b4 i went, and had a full tank of gas! Well on the drive down the car was blowing blue smoke sumthing shocking, has never blown any smoke till those idiots stuffed around with it, and it felt real sluggish!! When I got to folks the car had used half a tank of petrol (on a 35 min drive, doing between 60 and 80 km) it used a fair bit of oil, both are extremely rare for my car!! I have never had to top up my oil before!! So anyway I took it to another one of those chain service centre, i told them what happened, they looked at it and couldn't believe there guys (from a different centre) had done to it!! Funny enough the state rep was at that shop on that day i went there!! After them making calls, i was told the other idiot mechanics bent valves and stuffed a cpl of other things, and where hiding it from me!! I was advised not to drive it home because the motor was in danger of blowing!! They have to get an engineer in, and look over it, so im outright refusing to pay a dam cent!!
I am so mega pissed off!! I couldn't believe mechanics I trusted, and have been to for ages, and thrown alot of business there way could lie to me, damage parts, put it back together, not tell me, and try and get more money outa me to fix it, and blame me for driver abuse to cover there own ass! Not happy!

That sucks man! At least they're gonna fix it for you. Just shows that if you are unhappy with the work, and its a major chain, just go higher up the ladder and they'll soon be sweating.

Yeah it's ****ed alright! With them ****ing me car up by doing a simple lifter replacement, the funny thing is that the lifters are still ticking!! Makes me think weather it was worth it going through all that, or if they really did replace them?!?!

Well i found out today that the ****wit mechanic (who was only gonna replace my ticking lifters) actually bent 4 valves, chipped a valve, and he actually put the lifters in the wrong way around!! What a figgin dickhead!! My car was towed to another mechanic i know and trust, the heads are off and sent away, and alot of other little things!! Lucky I don't have to pay for it now

yeh how true is the lipton ice tea ad about mechanics.
"probly just a cracked radiator hose but ill tell you its much worse"
"oh well ill just write you a check that bounces"
love that ad

also hard luck with the car mate. I honestly dont know how a mechanic could stuff that up so badly. putting lifters in upside down??? make them pay good.

Well i now have me car back after all the bull**** from last week...! They paid for the heads, new valves, valve guides, lifters, all gaskets, etc etc!! So they dam well should!! I'm finking about selling it now & getting a new Magna, most likely Verada..! How much do you ppl think I will get for my 96 V6 TS? It's completely immaculate, all original, 1 owner, full logbook, very low k's and babied its entire 8yr life lol

Cheers

if your ts is auto i'd maybe do that but the manuals are wonderous and so much faster, depending on how many k's you done you could get anywhere from 4k-6.5. (pretty ****ty resale for sucha good car)
