I am wondering if somebody would be able to let me know the model of my motor by engine number? it is V562t04719 the car is 1991 tp exec wagon but not sure if is original motor help would be great. thanks Andy
What is it? Manual Carby?
I'm pretty sure V562 is the second gen motor series, (Firsts were V511/2, V571/2)
sorry it is efi, auto, aircon and power steer. Second gen is tr onwards ?

sigmas dont have astron 2, despite some peoples belief, if u have 1 ure lucky, but there custom done, and im pretty sure sigma engines were P and N
wouldnt u need custom mounts for a sigma engine into a magna?
maybe u had the test bench TM engine, lol
well, my original motor was a normal engine number... but this swap over motor has this engine number... any idea's why it's restamped?

sigmas came out with a 2.6 astron - and a 2.6 astron is a 4G54 Astron II

u surrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeee?
i coulda just had a 1 off, but ive had 1 of each sigma, including the last ugly 1 and it still had a standard astron, was it perhaps a gsr option??
I'm pretty sure... but i dont mind being corrected...
i had a loan GN sigma - it had a 2.6
people take the 2.6's out of sigmas and put them in oldschool galants - cos the astron and saturn (i'm pretty sure it's the saturn) have the same engine mounts... sigmas came out in a 1.6 & 1.8 saturn - and a 2.0 & 2.6 astron
sorry it is efi, auto, aircon and power steer. Second gen is tr onwards ? back to topic... yeah, if what gav says is correct - that motor is from a TR/TS... meaning it's not the orignal motor
Gav's had many engines so it's probably right... :D

TR 4cyl efi engine numbers start with "W531". I don't know if there is a difference for TR carby engines, never had one!
the engine number starting with "RPM" could be a police issued number.
sigmas and magnas both have 2.6L astron II. Early magnas and late sigmas basically had the same moving parts but the magna block and head is a very different cast,
Magnas have a port at the back of the block for the waterpump. The magna engine also has a narrower head and block deck.
A sigma engine simply won't fit into a front wheel drive magna the water pump on the timing case would hit the LH chassis rail.
In sigmas there were 2 different 2.6L engines used the 4G56 and the 4G56B the B was for wide bellhousing and from memory the B engines were used in autos

yeah, didnt think the sigmas could fit in the magnas. police issue?

why would that be? was the car is came from defected or it lost it's engine number while they remaunfactured the block so they got issued with a new one?

lol, wanna make another thread and we'll compare whos got the most mixed up car, i reckon it'd be funy. might do that actually.
Not really. The whole drivetrain's going to be used as a boatanchor soon. I'll let you know what the new stuff is, when it's decided.

I'm not certain on why your engine doesn't have a standard number on it but the most likely reason was that the top of the block was decked and the old number was lost,
Was the engine a re-co from RPM engines? considering how many engines they do they might have their own series of engine numbers.
Police do issue replacement engine and chassis numbers for vehicles that have had structural panels with the vin number replaced or where the engine had the number on the block deck and this has been machined removing the engine number. Eg. VB to VH commodores had the chassis number stamped on the radiator support panel. When you replaced it due to an accident you had to get a new number from the police and stamp that number on the strut tower.
Police issued numbers from memory usually read, V000001P (Vic), N000001P (NSW), etc
Before anyone gets any ideas about restamping engines, cars do get impounded and engine blocks removed and x-rayed to find the impression of the old engine number in the metal under the dodgy restamp.

The reco was done by HM/GEM... meh, i'm not fussed really - i just wanted to know why it was restamped
Thanks
