Hey guys, just installed a set of 6x9's in my magna last night. When i was installing them i found out that the speaker sits like 5mm from the parcal shelf because they are slightly bigger than stock. therefore i couldnt put the standard speaker grilles back on.
How have you guys gotten past this?.. post pics of your 6x9's :D
here is a couple dodgy pics of mine..
P.S. THEY GO FREAKING HARD!..

Well you hav a few options if u want the stock grills back on:
See the silver plastic "grill" that can be removed on some to reduce the height.
although i dont think it works on those pioneers.
This may not work because it may drop the speaker to low and stop ur boot from working but i did it on a getz in the back speakers and used mdf spacers that u can buy from any car audio shop and mount the speaker from underneath these set it down and the stock grill can fit on.
Hope this helps.

What i did was the underneath the plastic grill where all the contures are I melted it so that i will fit. I used a soldering iron with a large tip to melt it but you might be able to cut it with a stanley knife. Its alot of trial a error to get it to fit depending on your speakers and how much you have to cut away.
hope it helps
if you want i'll send so photos to your email

Had the same problem with Pioneer 6x9's.
Take them out. In your third photo you can see the lower lip of the parcel shelf.
Take a pair of pliers and bend the lower lip out a couple of mm.
Do this evenly all the way round. I found that the support arms on the speaker chassis were fouling the edge of the sheetmetal.
Took about 3 minutes each side. After the speakers sat right down. Then the stock covers fitted perfectly as I didn't want to advertise new speakers.

thanks all.. i will give a couple of them a go. But simply leaving the pioneer covers off wont do a thing.
Choice speakers there....I gots the same 6x9's. Just gotta find the time to hook em up to the amp. Hey, I just noticed that mine sit up a tiny bit. Meh.

yep thats the way i did it as the better speakers are a true 6x9 they dont quite fit
some pliers right around the outer lip should do the trick , no so easy but you find a way !!!
so got no pics but i cant work out how to makem small enough to be accepted

I fitted mine today by bending the plasic ridge things on the grill off with plyers. Worked a treat and takes no time at all. Took me ages to do one with a dremel then I decided to give the plyers a go.
For anyone that wants to know, I am using TSA6960E Pioneers. I had to get just about all of the ridges off to make it flush.

Is that all it takes to get it to fit under the original covers? I thought the extra speaker sections in the middle would be too high as well.

Could be on other speakers but on mine it was fine and the middle bit was pretty high up.

Cheers, it was actually the 6960/6961 that I was looking at.

I still need to know what 6x9's are gonna fit without being obvious ??
I wanna ditch the Stockies and get some Decent sounds but it must be 100% stealth as my folks will notice it..
You have to remember it will only be my car when I sell my current one, so I want an Early start..
