Any TL/TW owners here... how do you "turn off" the aircon compressor?

on non climate control cars

There's one round knob for Fan Speed ("volume" haha), another for Temperature (snowflake).

But there's no separate "A/C" switch so that we can have the dash fan running
without the aircon compressor kick in whenever it gets warm - or am I missing something?

AC will stay on all the time.. all you can do is adjust the temp..

to my knowledge, I thought you have to "press" the FAN knob (the one also with the snowflake symbol) and make sure you are not in "AUTO" mode on the left knob. I could be wrong, check the manual...

Press the knob that controls fan speed. Make sure its not on auto.

ps: its not my car, mine's got SNOW/SNOW+ECO/OFF on the climate. lol

There is no mention in the TL manual.

Both round knobs are springy-loaded... pushing them in do nothing.

Only way to off the A/C I can think of is to yank out the fuse or relay.
I'm suspecting Mitsu ditched the A/C switch to save $...?

Most of the time we'd drive with A/C off, temp on 'cold' so heater don't kick in.
On the TL there's only a tiny leeway between A/C or heater on the Temp knob.

The question is does it have an aircon? Might just be living in a cold area.. lol

Melbourne's not THAT cold... ... been a long while since I saw a 3rd gen without air too. Might have to be a "special order" these days. :D

I'm with TecoDaN: Surely if you ensure that the left knob is off auto, and then press the centre knob (with the green snowflake) so that the green light goes out, then that should switch off the aircon.

I base all of this by looking at a photo in front of me  (hey, I have a TJ with the nice LCD climate control screen  )

Bit different inside the TL/TW big-light cars though:

Even with the dial on auto, by pressing the fan dial, it will still turn the aircon off.

It's deffo a case of pushing in the middle knob, mines a right bugga too.

yeah i tried it on mine, if you push the middle dial in the green light changes colour, air will still blow out of the vents when you switch to fan settings.

Cool, thanks for the answer - I'll try it I'm in the TL next time!

We were pushing all 3 knobs but didn't dare push TOO hard... hehe, didn't wanna break Uncle's new car whilst he was looking. :D

you just push in the fan speed button, it changes the colour of the snow flake from green to white. This means the air con is off. When the snow flake is green it is on. If the green light wont turn off when you push the knob in, then their is a problem with your car and you should take it to mitsubishi.
