I've just had my linkage cable brake <can't spell>break<can spell> right near the gearbox.......... 96 TE 2.4 Manual
The quote from Mitsubishi is $534.75 + labour to replace it..... mind you this is a cable with a piece of metal at each end... does anyone know a cheaper alternative? even better has anyone ever heard of this happening before (in a magna that is)?

I think you're talking about the cable to the handbrake?

Sorry.... tried to sound technical....failed....
The cable is the one that runs from the gearstick to the gearbox selector.. it controls the foward, backwards movement..
linkage sounded so much smarter than 'gearbox thingy cable'

Sorry my bad, when you spelled "break" with "brake" I automatically assumed it was something to do with your brakes, but the only "cable" used in brakes is the handbrakes.
That price is about right, my mate paid something similar, but it was a Celica. Just to let you know, the actual linkage cable is only a fraction of the cost that has been quoted, most of your money is going towards labour.

nah, the $535 was for parts alone, labour was quoted at 1/2 hr.
It's one of these special "they only sell the whole kit" jobs. (kit contains cables, connectors, and rubber sleeves)
Guess I really just stop whinging and cough up the dough for it........

$535 for the linkage cable?!?! and the kit... :doubt:
damn that is expensive. I think its a tad too expensive.
I got a boot and seal kit for the twin pot calipers for $60 for each caliper, and I thought that was expensive!

Shop around someone must make a aftermarket cable that will fit then just get a brake and clutch place to fit it probaly work out half the price. If its only a cable then why go origional parts.? note this is only my guess

cables from wrecker - $125.00... DIY labour - free, telling Mitsubishi what they can do with their $500+ quote.... priceless...
