Hey guys

Just bought a second hand VRX and am having some issues with the factory sound setup.

Firstly, after running the car for a bit the sound just dies - the headunit still has power, you can still switch between CD / Radio and adjust the volume but there is just no sound.

After this initial hickup, the sound quality become very poor - lots of distortion. Also, if you try and turn the volume above 16 then it will cut out again. To get it working you need to either turn the system off for a few minutes or turn the volume down to around 5, and wait - it will start working again after a few.

This happens on both cd's and radio.

Any suggestions on how to fix this without spending money or waiting a week or 2 for warranty

Change it!.... get a good new head unit.... chances are this will be a cheaper option to getting it repaired!!!

Im hoping it's just a short or something easy to fix - just that i don't know how lol

Can't be stuffed changing it, just changed from a car that i modded the **** out of + i actually like the factory stuff in the VRX - and it's all covered by warranty, 2 bad there's a waiting list :(

edit - maybe i should have posted this thread in the tech talk section, feel free to move it :bowrofl:

Ur in the right section.
Sounds like a short on one of the speaker terminals.
To test, take off the factory headunit. Firstly check the plooms for anything obvious that could be shorting out. Give it a good blow etc.

If that doesnt fix it, run a multimeter across the positive and negative terminals of each speaker.
Instead of opening up each door. Just test it across the wiring ploom (http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Mitsubishi-Wiring.pdf) itself.
(Test each positive and negative wire) Most should show around 4 ohms resistance, but if any shows very little resistance there is a short.)
Once you've narrowed down which door it is coming from, take off the door trim (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14459) on that door. and look for anything obvious on the speaker terminals. (Hopefully it's there)

I'm sure this is your problem, otherwise headunit failure. It sounds like the symptoms anyway. You headunit is overheating from too much current draw
Also check ur fuse to see it's not toasted...

Peace

Tim
