the general concensus is the straight through muffler which is very similar to a lukey, I think there may be ecu tweaks but a fair percentage of the gain is the exhaust. If I'm wrong someone will correct me soon enough

I wont argue and say that you're wrong..but I've never seen anything to substaniate the claim that there were ecu tweaks. If you do have something that does say so..then please show me as I'd like to see it.
The muffler change is what yeilds the higher kW rating.
And the ECU would've tweaked itself for the higer flow since it is a learning ECU if anything.

nah mate I've just seen it pop up a few times on this forum personally I think it's just the exhaust and hope so as well being an advance owner I just threw it in to prevent vrx owners jumping on me! :)

It would be interesting to see dyno figures from a stock VR-X vs an exec with just a new muffler.
From autospeed.com's review of the TJ VR-X (http://www.autospeed.com/A_0660/cms/article.html), they had this to say
[quote:cedc6fe73a]What'd the last model 3.5 Sport do? With a 0-100 of 8.2 seconds, it was a mile away from this TJ model. But some relatively minor tweaking of the cams and engine management maps - and the fitment of a big exhaust - has wrought a change totally out of proportion with those apparently minor mods.[/quote:cedc6fe73a]
Make of it what you will! They don't say where they got their info from.

i think they used a different exhaust and tweaked intake plenum , now remember how i was always trying to explain how the air intake is critical to power production ?

I can get our spare parts blokes to check and see if there are different part no's for the ecu's. As far as i know intake is the same with just a different muffler. have heard they have a different airflow meter but don't know if this was a running change across the whole tj series.

Well at the Brisbane Dyno day on Saturday ... we have at least one stock VRX and of couse my Sports TH with a hiflow muffler so we might get some actual results to show what it could be.

All you need is the muffler

Well I can tell you from the dyno day that the 3.0L manual with k&n panel filter and lukey exhaust beat the VRX on the dyno. Shocked everyone.

Even my TJ 3.5L auto beat the stock VRX.
However, at 80km/hr on the graph it's a different story.

The difference between the model is the rear muffler only, they all run the same everything else, you can buy the sports muffler for any model TJ and getthe same kw, but at almost 400 who would want it. It is not a straight through design like the Lukey but give a 9% increase in power anyway, I would buy the Lukey as I am going to, hey anyone want to buy a second hand Sports muffler.
