Hey all, I have a bit of a weird problem regarding a CD that I burnt, I'll try and explain it as best I can. Whenever I put the cd into my head unit (Pioneer DEH-P5550MP (http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/car_entertainment/cdtuners/dehp5550mp/support.html)) the unit says FRMTREAD and the unit tries to read the CD and then resets itself, and tries to read the cd again. This keeps on happening until I get the ****s with it and eject the cd. The cd is a CR/RW made by TDK.

I thought it could be the cd media, so I tried a new cd (non-RW) and it did exactly the same thing. I have a few folders (5 to be exact) filled with roughly 20 tracks each in mp3 format.

I also thought that some of the mp3 files could be in mp3PRO format, of which my hu don't support. Converted all to regular mp3 and still no go. Interestingly I just burnt the first folder to the CD, and it plays quite happily.

I know that the FRMTREAD message means that the folder system and tracks on the cd are being recognised, and FRMTREAD pops up all the time with mp3 discs. I have used Nero6 with both Data CD and MP3 CD as the burn type, still nothing.

So, I think that it isn't a media/format problem, more like a filename length/max tracks per folder error. Does anyone know if there is a limit to tracks/folders on a CD?

Repeated burns didn't solve the problem, nor did writing with Windows Xp's inbuilt cd software make any difference (I thought mayhaps Nero might be having a fit).

Got me beat.

I found similar problem: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=22240&goto=nextoldest

I have the exact same head unit and have come across the exact same problem. The head unit resets itself over and over again but it only happens with a burnt mp3 cd. However i only came across the problem once i started using nero to burn my cd's. Before i used the musicmatch jukebox burner and easy cd creator and never had any problems. Maybe the software does something different to the cd's. Would be good to know what the problem is

I have a much less advanced MP3 tuner in my car, an LG TCH-800 (link (http://au.lge.com/md/product/prodcategorylist.do?actType=detail&currPage=1&categoryId=0000000204&parentCategoryId=0000000002&categoryLevel=3&productId=1100000014)), and it is not reliable at reading MP3s. One time, it will read the whole CD, then other times, it has less total tracks available, then other times it doesn't recognise there is a CD in at all, and other times when listening to the radio, suddenly the CD starts on its own. Mine are all burnt using Nero6 on XP.

Does the unit ever read the CD? Maybe you have a faulty HU, take it back. I plan to take mine back if I ever find the receipt...

I GOT IT FIXED! woot! :D

Seems that shortening the file names to less than 32 characters made everything OK. I also mucked around with the folders (one folder for X album and Y album's 3 CD's in another folder as opposed to a seperate folder for each of Y's CD's)

From the pioneer manual: (see attachment)

Thanks for the suggestions 89GSR, I know I don't have a faulty HU.

I've never come across this problem. I've only noticed that when I have chinese characters in track titles it can't display them :P How sucky is that

I've got the same head unit or the model before and have had the same problem also... mine just seemed to be when my Cd's were sratched to buggery so I didnt think any more of it..

anyone else had problems ejecting Cd's?? Like they only come out of the player about 2 mm and then stop moving??

Complex folder structures are hard for the headunit to process. While in most manuals they say upto 7 depths of folders is acceptable.
If you are having troubles try and simplify this.

If you copy all the songs in the root folder do you still get errors? If not this is your problem.

(Get an ipod ;))

Peace
