View Full Version : Would 3G Diamante calipers fit Magnas?

Guys,
As I'm in the US for a while, I'm thinking about buying a few things over here (hopefully cheaply) and biringing them back for my Magna.
Something that just occured to me is that All 3G Diamante's have twin-pot front calipers. Does anyone know exactly what size they are and if they'll fit an Aussie TE-TJ Magna.
My bet would be they are the same hardware as the Rallliart/AWD.. but that's just a guess.
Any thoughts?
Also, any other ideas on what I should look into buying?

Yeah, long time no hear man! What's happening?
Are they the same body shape as our 3rd gens?

yeah, buy as much aftermarket stuff as you can, cos its cheap as chips over there...... can you bring me back some airbag suspension? hehehe
as for your question, i'm pretty sure you'll need to get larger rotors, but get them from over there too!!

I thought TZABOY tried but it just ended up costing a lot of money... wasn't it due to the size of the rim in the end? if you had the hub, rotor, caliper and proper size offset rim, i think it is do able.. but then again, not sure whether it'll be reliable, as Magna is heavier than the 3000GT. is it worth the risk? Dunno, I'm trying out the twin piston calipers RPW has but haven't heard back from them yet in regards to that...

jack, he means 3rd gen diamante's not 3000GT or GTO

Arh damn, that'll teach me for speed reading, sorry, just too tired from whole day of Adv Control homework.

So nobody knows for certain if the US D brakes will fit on a Magna or exactly what size (in mm) the rotors are?
hmm

I am pretty sure they will fit.
But you will need to know rotor size, rotor offset, and bolt distance on caliper.
You would be looking at 295mm, offset???, 160mm between bolt centres on a 3rd GEN. If the rotors are about the same size and the bolt distance is the same then most likely they will fit :)

i have sussed out a brake conversion for a mate of mines te....effectively a ralliart magna/awd magna size upgrade bolt on. yuo will need to buy 2 ralliart/awd calliper brackets new from mitsu $300, 2 ts/ks 2 piston callpiers from the wreckers these are cheap and are the same as ralliart/awd callipers (believe it or not). the some brand new aftermarket slotted discs and some green stuff pads. hey presto ralliart/awd front brakes. the rear is no big deal either but i wont go into that now. from memory i think i all up was about the 900-$1000 mark for whopper stoppers.
just thought it may be of intrest.
drop me a line for part numbers if interested
cheers mon

The TS/KS twin spots are hard to find though.

If you're talking about the rear AWD's then it can be a big deal. It isn't a simple swap.

IMHO I thought that it is only the KS that has the twins?

Guys,
Been doing some more research and have found that the U.S. D's have 276mm rotos on the front - same as our Magnas.
The difference is they run twin-pot calipers on the front.
Do you guys think I'll notice much of a braking difference going to the twin-potter, or do I really need to increase rotor size to see a worthwhile difference?
Does anyone know if there is anything I can find out about the calipers to see if they will bolt straight up, or will I basically have to get one and see what happens?
Thanks again,
-Dan

The fronts will bolt straight on ...
Ill measure up the diameters of mine tonight and see what they are.
If you can you are better trying to find EVO V or VI front and rear setups.
they bolt straight on adn give you 320 front 4-piston and 300 rear 2-piston. and if you geteth rotor and the calipers they all bolt on without modification... Rim clearance is your only concern then!

I second the Brembo brakes. They are BEAUTIFUL.

You will definitely get a noticeable difference.
A) you have a larger pad area in contact with the disc, which equates to better stopping.
B) you have the braking force from the caliper more evenly distributed over the entire pad itself which will give a better pedal feel.
If you can get a few spare sets of these calipers, i will definitely buy a set off you assuming the price is fair.
if we are making orders i wouldnt mind a set of brembos

Guys,
This is part of the reason I've been doing the research.. to find out what price I can get what, and possibly get a few sets of a few things for people.
I'll do some more digging, and if I can sort something out, I'll post an EOI thread in the for sale.

Only ABS equipped models had the twin spots. Just happened to be that it was more common for a KS to have ABS (standard?) than a TS.

so thats why mine has twin spot front calipers, with abs you also got vented rear discs.
