I wanna install a kill switch as im too poor for a imobiliser.

anyone know how to install one or would it be better off to get someone to fit it?

(ill prolly buy a soldering iron next pay to make the auto kit and, if i end up doing this myself, kill switch permenant)

Not to sure on your model.. Easiest way is to switch a wire of the starter relay ie:earth wire.. but on a TJ there is no relay.. not sure about your model.. The wire goes straight from ignition straight to starter.. there for you need to tap into that wire do ur own relay setup and presto..

Mine is a spring loaded switch hiden in cabin. u need to hold down switch so you can start the car.. its only on starting so it car still be pushed or clutched.. if you want a full on one tap a rely off the fuel fuse and its a full on kill switch..

Hope it helps..

hmm ok u can cut the starter motor relay relativly easyly, another thing that im doin to mine now ( to stop another problem) would also work, behind the glovebox kinda is the control for the electric fuel pump (if your car has one, may have the mech one on the block im not sure, ) yet yeah cut the power that goes to that and ure car cant pump fuel until u switch it back and it wont start.

Take it you guys have starter relays with your model as the TJ doesnt.. :D

Not to sure on your model..

1985 Magna TM (Carby - Auto)

No what i mean was im not sure if your model had a starter relay or not as the TJ doesnt..

Make sense now..???

umm on second thoughs we might not have a relay, we have 12 V constant to the motors solinoid, then the 12 volts when its turned to start on the other wire on the solinoid, yet still same thing applies, cut that wire, put a switch

one thing i noticed on the junkit sigma i got, was a wire that ran from the coils earth to a switch inside the car, acted like a kill switch, cheap and nasty, but it worked.

My Kill switch. You had to pump the throttle to get the thing to start... And it's an EFI...

that's odd. however it is a worn old car, and if it wasn't tuned yeah, it'd do that.

i would think coil or fuel pump would be the easiest to put a switch onto

can someone help out by explaining how i do this?

i think notorius said i dont have a fuel relay ( ),
so im guessing ill hafta attack the coil?
(but wouldnt that mean the car would run off the battery till that died?)

or is there a way i can hook something up by attacking the fuel pump at the tank?

if u trip the wire to the coil the car wont spark, coz it provides the dizzy with what it needs to distribute power to the spark plugs. noweher near the correct technical terms, but im sure you get it from that explanation?

Don't worry about attempting to put a switch on your starter motor, as all theives have to do is short the terminals of your starter motor and it will start!
Fuel pump is a much better idea.
I had a micro switch connected inside my gear boot (cabled tied to the gear stick) so you couldnt see it. You had to hold it closed while you turned the key otherwise it wouldnt start. But it was only a basic one as i said, and easy to get around if you know what your doing, and it eventually wore holes in the gear boot.
NOTE: If you are going to put a switch inline with say the fuel pump or something, make sure it is more than capable of carrying the current required... otherwise... smoke!!
Cheers

lol, personal expierience?

if you wanna spend the money, which some ay is not nessesary, but up to you, is just buy a $50 immobiliser, doesnt have to be a top of the line one, so long as it does the job. you can sometimes get fancy cool feats with some of them, and u never pay more than 50$, but thats me.

well not realy with the current in the wires, all u do is use a relay :P then it does the high current switching for u:P

yet in this persons case it wont work as he has a mechanical fuel pump, so cutting the wire to the coil is ure best bet

No, as Im an Electronic Engineer, hopefully I'd know better, but I've had to fix other people's molten switches and cables a few times!! lol

ahh, good man, lol, yes i can imagine you'd have seen all sorts.
worst ive ever seen was a switch melted to a dash, instead of putting in a relay, the 'person in question' lol, better not embarass him online, installed to foggies, but ran the 12v direct to a switch, then to the lights........ man some people dont think.... i thought a hot switch wouldve hinted, but, live and learn. lol

did they have to clean their seat after? hahaha

Though hey if you didnt know anything bout electronics, you couldn't really be blamed. Ive stepped my dad through installing stereos, so he can now basically install one himself, but he still struggles with basic electronic concepts, but he would leave me faaaar behind in his mechanical knowledge.

no, he can be blamed, instructions saying you need a relay, and 'the man' saying ill skip the relay and go straight to the switch. lol

Most people dont get instructions for a kill switch. They just grab a switch and bung it in somewhere... I mean who needs instructions to fit a switch!!!

people who melt 1 to a dash...
if you dont know how, you can either get someone who does know how. OR ask ALOT of people, not just 1, get there insight, then do it.... i guess thats the point of this topic ahh lol
