Since buying me TR Wagon I have found that it's lacking some of the features I am used to in other cars I've had. But hey it only set me back $3500

Anyhow I have fitted central locking to the old girls front and rear doors. The fronts are easy and I recommend anyone who doesn't have it in to do it. Takes the whole of a day ( but I intergrated it with the existing wiring so's it took longer but looks cooler 8)

The Black widow kit is the way to go at only $40 complete. The rear doors are a dog as the plastic and nylon L joints have to much play and give in them after ten years and don't work properly.

To fit the kit first remove the doors and under dash trim on both sides.

Next lay out and install your wiring loom by feeding it through the existing ducting into the doors and under the dash. If you not going to be incorperating it into a wiring harness then tie it up nicely with wire ties and stuff.

Using the already drilled holes on the bottom LH corner of each door screw in the motor. Then attach the rod to the snippet button. Connect up the connectors to the wiring loom.

Eart the controller unit to the metal frame under the dash. ( dash support frame).

Find a +12 volt live wiring to use as your supply that will drive the motors. It must be +12Volts even when the car is off as it's gunna open ya doors.

Disconnect your battery and connect to the +12volt wire using solder and heat shrink and wrap the joint. Reconnect the battery. Wind down a window and test away.. easy intit :D

Now just put everything back into place taking car not to scratch the platics bits as they go back.

Thanks for this, considering I intend to buy my central locking kit tomorrow :p

$40 Black Widow kit? Any difference in range of kits apart from master & slave cylinders?

JB Hi-Fi has a 1 x Master, 3 x Slave central locking kit which can hook up to an alarm later for $29.
While AutoBarn have a Vision kit with 2 x Master & 2 x Slave cylinders for $35, just have to check if it can plug in to alarms, etc.

While I'm not actually after an alarm, just a remote kit for the central locking. Everyone seems to sell & install alarms or sell just central locking kits DIY which makes it hard when I'm chasing the middle ground, remote central locking DIY :D :D

I'm inspired now, thanks mate, hehe.

I got two master units for the front doors and two slave for the rears. The kit also included all screws, nuts bolts and control rods and a very nice wiring harness that plugs into a smart looking control unit that hides under the dash.

The kit is actually quite well made. The only drama like I said is the rear doors.. I have hooked everything up but left the wires disconnected due to the play in the rear doors.

The unit can have a remote plugged into it and/or a alarm/immob.

I hope to have you pics of the front doors and under dash either this or next weekend :D

Should help ya install.

BTW it was $38 from Straithfield see their web site.

Jeez Killbilly some of use have all the luck

I installed my central locking yesterday with great sucess! :D

Took a little bit of time, at least 6-7 Hours but considering I used all existing wiring conduits in the doors & haven't done anything like this before, it didn't seem that long :)

I have many pics that I'll put up on another page when I get time, but until then, heres the mess I went through to install it all.

Hehehe looks like me doing mine.

I finally figured a way to get the back doors working. It was just a case of glueing the metal rods to the plastic L bracket.

I really have to find my digital camera!

Hmm...
I actually didn't take a picture of power wires (its about all I didn't get a pic of :D).
As Shagin said in his first post, make sure you tap a 12+ that is a constant source of power.
Personally I tapped my hazards power cable with a nice little splicer (I'll get a pic to show you what I mean by the splicer) As I didn't like the idea of having to do the actually soldering work inside my dash. And I grounded mine similar to a stero, with a crimped lug screwed onto the chasis.
If you need any help or more pictures, PM me or reply.

As I have a wagon the power swicth for the remote boot release which is just under teh dash.

Quite conveniant actually :D

Always use a fuse in line with your +12 V line. In between your source and the control unit. That way if something shorts it takes out the fuse ( 50c) rather than half your electrics.

I would check the rating of the hazard switch fuse first. If it is more than 15 AMPS use that.

Try to use solder and heat shrink rather than splicers. It makes the job neater and safer as some splicers are a bit dodgey.

AOh and alwys connect your power last. If you've done it right it's amatter of simply pluggin in the fuse :D

Hey does anyone in W.A know of anywhere that will install a central locking and alarm system integrated together? [/email]

If your SOR go to Lance Auto Electrics in Cannington. These guys are REALLY good, having used them when I have gotten alarms installed, this when I had imports and nobody wanted to touch imports.

Else you should find a good Auto electrician. I would avoid the back yard immboliser installers and Supercheap etc as I've had to fix their work in the past.

Some people recommend audio installers but I don't know any that are any good.

Also make sure you get the quote up front.

well basically you'll need to get yourself an alarm system that has the central locking trigger outputs.

My brothers '94 TS exec came with central locking standard  . My car has central locking, but it also has an alarm/remote so maybe the central locking was hooked up with the alarm? it came with the car when i bought it.
