Ok, guys, im desperatelly seekinh help. Basically, about 8 months ago, i had my trans reconditioned, bla bla bla and when i got the car back, it had a bad coolant smeel coming from the vents. I had it checked out by several mechanics and they ALL said that its nothing to worry about and that the smell would go away. Unfortuantly, since then its been getting worse. Basically what happened was the smell would b really bad with the heater turned on and thatd b it, but now the smell comes out even when the heating is turned off. From all this time ive concluded that its almost definatelly got something to do with a leak in the heater. Now basically if anyone thinks it may b something then tell me, but i think its either the tap thing to the heater thats leaking or just in the heater box (core) itself.
What i want to know is how i can check whether it is the heater, like, where exactly is the heater and how do i get to it. But say if i didnt want to do it myself, how much would i b looking at paying for someone to go into and possibly finding the problem and fixing it? and how much is a new heater box thing?
If anyone thinks it may be something else then PLEASE say so, this is driving me insane!!!
Thanks, Greg

Sounds like there's a minor leak/weep in your heater coils... its probably a pinhole just enough to let liquid weep thru but it all evaporates in the airflow before it gets a chance to drip.

But pretty soon your passenger will experience wet ankles...

One of those wierd things. The USA magnas have been plaqued with heater on their cars yet there been none on ours. This because we don't use ours

Yeah sorry to say dude, but sounds like a heater core :( which isn't much fun. You might wanna be careful cause when/if it goes it'll dump 90degree coolant all over your passengers feet and possibly yours, depending on whether the dash channels it along - but before that happens it'll steam your windows up :P

So how exaclty would i go about getting into it and checking it all? Like where do i begin, what do i take apart, and where abouts is the heater?

Behind the dash, most likely on the left side - but for details I can't really help you except to say that your job would most likely be much easier if you grabbed a haynes manual or somesuch. From most heater cores I've seen the dash requires a fair bit of dissasembly if not complete removal :(

This sounds like a lot of work, i think i might just give it to a mechanic or somthing and pay them to handle it. And i dont have a TF Magna manual, but dads got a TH one, they should b the same as far as i know. So looks like its another trip down to the mechanics
