After having recently serviced my car at the Mitsu dealers i noticed the instrument cluster on one of the cars there looked so beautiful. The one on my car looks really pale and the globes behind them painfully emit enough light .. so i decided to have it replaced with the VRX type cluster ( the white background with red markings ) and so i asked the salesman if it was possible .... n the @SS***E said "NO". He said there were complications in doing this and Mitsu dealers wouldnt do it ... have any of you guys done this sorta thing ... pics n links would be a helping hand ... thnx

Dealer may not be able to do it, but you can. You are forgetting the legality side of things.

Why is illegal to fit a different intrument cluster?

It's not illegal.
When you swap a cluster, you are only allowed to have a 10% difference in odometer readings without having to inform anyone (Motor registry, or a potential buyer), otherwise you are obligated to inform the motor registry and the next owner of the difference.

If you've got an auto then the indicator lights might not be right because the VRX and Sports is 5 speed tiptronic. Can't see why not with a manual, but check b4 you do anything.

Because the Dealer has an agreement with the manufacturer, that they will not replace ADR-compliant components on a vehicle with those that are not original fitment on that vehicle.

Hey mate, reagarding the coloured dials, i had emailed Emtech in SA sometime last year and they told me that they supply the dials to The Spoiler Shop, here in Perth and someone correct me if i'm wrong, but they cost somewhere between $250 -$350 including installation. The guys at spoiler shop do the install obviously.

I have spoken to RTA tech services about this in the past.
I was told that if a cluster is replaced then the old speedo reading has to be written on the back of the new cluster along with the reading on the replacement speedo at time of fitting and the date fitted.
Potential buyers must be informed of the exact difference between the speedo reading and actual distance travelled when you sell the car after doing the work but there is no requirement on a buyer if they onsell the car.

Yeah thats pretty much what I was told...I wasnt told that you have to write the speedo reading on the old cluster, just have it written down somewhere.
Nice to see they're fairly consistent with their info lol

Anyway, who would know really and if there is a marginal difference who cares.
As for replacing ADR compliant parts with parts not off that vehicle this must mean that every dealership in the world has broken thier agreements and now needs to be closed as this happens on a day to day basis with simple things such as wheels and tyres, perhaps Ash had better take his car back also as his springs were also replaced

boyz the easiest thing to do is go to the local REPCO and buy the red silicon light boots and put them over the instrument cluster it looks gr8 and it is only about 4$ worth of mod
