View Full Version : Axel Tramps like a MOFO
Sports

My TH Sports axeltramps when ever the wheels start spinning in 1st, it does not do it in 2nd though. The front engine mount is cracked and is going to be replaced soon. Would the engine mount be the cause? or is there other reasons? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I got tyres brand new today and at 33psi, even with the hardest tyres found on earth that spins up with the greatest of east it still axel tramped in 1st and spunn up in 2nd with no axel tramp as what happened at the drags, oh they were at 31psi or something like that. So I'm thinking the cracked engine mount?

lower it and stick a strut brace on it :P

Yes, it's quite possible that your cracked mount is causing the problem. You really need to get that fixed ASAP anyway, so just wait til after that and check if you still have the axle tramping problem.

Thanks... beauty  lol
...now care to share? ;)(not that I have this problem, just interested... although it could be a few things causing it.)

Lower your car and fit a Whiteline KCA-372X Castor/Antilift kit. Since i installed the kit and a strut brace no axle tramp for me.

Haha, well I said found but not exactly remember :P
I'll keep practising and this time remember what I did, but it seems its the way you let off the clutch and how much throttle you're giving it.
I think from memory if you clutch dump it at 4500rpm you'll end up axle tramping, but if you clutch dump it with lower revs then slowly (but rapidly? yes a bit ofa contradiction) give it some then that should ease of the tramps.
Not sure if i'll be able to do it anytime soon, i'm trying to ease off my wheel spins as of today, the clutch seems really light, and worried that its gonna go in the next month if I keep doing bogan stuff, and I can't really afford to replace at the moment.

Broken engine mounts and stock magna springs are the best combination for gettings loads of axle tramp. Check the condition of your mounts and if your budget allows look at fitting some lowered king springs, I can get these cheap for members so just PM if you wish.
I find if you just dump the clutch at high rpms your just going to hurt your driveline and axle hop all the way down the quarter mile. I find if you slowly let the clutch out and give it more by starting off at a lower rpm you will get a good launch.
Im going to be fitting a whiteline antilift kit shortly so hopefully this will help preserve my engine mounts lol Axle tramp is nasty nasty stuff.

Fix your mount ASAP as it will lead to your other mounts wearing quicker. I had similar problem in my TF, changed the mount and it greattly reduced the frequency in wich trampping occures, but it still does it. Also if your shocks are worn it will tend to add to the problem.
I have resorted to taking off without wheelspin to stop tramping, I just take off quicklly as possible without loosing traction and feeding in the power to the point before slip then just slap 2nd and your away. It's not the quickes method, but allot less demanding on clutch and mounts :D

Often a good sign that your mounts are worn is gearchanges can be a little crunch / harsh. This was the case with my VRX when i first bought it as a warn engine mount was causing the gearbox to drop and put more pressure on the linkages.
Just thought id share that. Oh and definatly get your mounts fixed asap as they can cause all sorts of accelerated wear problems.

this tramping..
wot is it
is it when ur doin a burnout and it feels like the axle is jumping up and down ?
could this be caused by hardcore tyre tread ?
and also, how do i see if my mounts r stuffed.
cos ive had it jump around a couple of times damit.

Yeah pretty much Ice
I had a bit of a hunt around with google and found a post in the FordForums which might be worth considering. It is not conclusive but some things to consider...
http://fordforums.com/showpost.php?p=204772&postcount=8
I read that suspension can be responsible too.
One thing I was thinking about was if there was more weight shifted to the rear of the vehicle also this would surely lessen the likelihood of tramping. Not that there is too much you can do about it apart from throw a few sand bags in your boot lol... or dead bodies

I think it's time we all started to search for some engine dampers.
Any kit would work as long as the damper size is correct (i.e: the damper it's self is long/big enough for a Magna), brakets and the like can be custom fabricated. :D

hey sports what was your 60ft time for your 15.6 pass???
axle tramp is when the wheels are breaking traction then gripping, then breaking traction, then gripping.....its what makes the front of the car bounce up n down......solution to axle tramp...dont do burnouts, cars arent made for burnouts especially not FWD's

i got my first case of it last night :( didn't drop the clutch, just floored it straight from the lights, as soon as i hit the white line it started to light up and bounce everywhere! sounds very average indeed! i know all my engine mounts are good, as i changed 3 during the conversion (including eurothane front mount) might see how i go after i get some new tyres!

Burnouts arn't the problem, it's trying to get of the line with some sort of enthusiasm thats the proble. I have never ripped a burnout/skid in my car delibratlly and still think axle tramp is a problem lol
