Hey guys got some questions.
First i can hear a lot of noise while listening ot music this i guess means that my earth is bad or something like that.
Now what can i do with the grounding, where is the best place to put the ground, and what type and or size cable should i use to extend the grounding cable if i put the grounding say in the engine bay.
And how do i know if i have found a good ground point or how can i check it the spot i choose is a good one without actually testing it with HU on etc.
Also i noticed i was getting some alternator noises coming from the speakers too, and how do i fix that.
Current HU ////ALPINE CDA-9833
Thanks for all the help

get a srew driver and stratch the hell out of the place where you wanna ground it, (still chasing up warrenty for that headunit too although it seems more like a electrical fault with your car talking to others) if your getting alternator noises from the speakers its cause of a wire touching something its not meant to but im sure stimulate the audio freak guy will be able to point you in the right dirrection, anyways im back to a uni assignment
good luck

Have fun doing the assignment, i also got one due soon.
I had a mounting point for the earth and sanded it till i got bare metal, a freind suggested running it into the engine bay and using the engines earth point?
Yeah im looking at replacing the speaker cables and going over all my soldering etc to make sure all is fine and not touching etc.

also be careful of your HU speaker outs. If they are allowed to short to ground, you can cause damage to the amp in your HU. You can also munt up the HU ground shield by letting the right cables touch the wrong things. There's a way you can check with a voltmeter, but yeah, hopefully it is just a ground issue. Just so long as it is ground noise/alternator whine and not amplifier kinda stuffed noise.
Check your HU ground conn. and sand back to bare metal for the contact. If you've got amps, ground them to the floor pan if at all possible, and again, sand back to bare metal.
Um... runnin power wires on opposite side of car to speaker leads another thing to check? Also check your battery ground to chassis, and make it better if it looks sketch. And also engine block to chassis is another possible area. If all else fails, ie you do all that stuff and still noise, then go all balanced from head to toe and love yourself for it.
Good luck!
bahahahah
i told u grounding your h/u via the chassis was useless and dodgey! I grounded mine well, and have no problems. You know where the handsfree wiring loom is, sorta under the cup holders, in front of your gear lever. There is a metal bar going across, under the wiring loom, and there are holes there. Just sand it down and bolt it on. I also soldered mine.
As for the wiring, its basically, as thick as you want. Anything around 12 gauge, or up to 16 gauge should be sufficient.

So can i use some speaker cable to extend the earth if needed.

what, twist them together and solder it on? WHy not, however, its just a rule of thumb to always keep ground cables as short as possible. That said, my JVC wiring loom ground cable seems to be extremely long, as it can reach all the way down there under the handsfree wirign loom.
its 6:25am :( I have to go to uni and play with rocks.

yeah the grounding cable on my JVC unit is pretty long. I just crimped an eye lug on it and grounded it by using an existing screw on the the metal frame that is next to the drivers left foot just behind the carpet. Works great, no sanding required as its bare metal already.
I tested it first by using a multimeter. The resistance between the metal frame and the stock ground from the stock HU was 0 ohms, so its got a good connection.

Also check rca leads. These induce a lot of intereference esp running them anywhere near the CPU.

short a run as possible, and same size (or bigger won't hurt of course) ground wire as power wire. so if you're running 00AWG to power... (lol NUTS if you are!) then you're runnin 00AWG to ground. But yeah, just make sure you twist the speaker wires, and solder the ends together totally, and make them all touch bare metal. Good idea to test the ground connection like above too! :D
