Heya,

Curious Thought: What is involved in removing the existing AirCon controls (simple dials) on my 2001 TJ, and replacing it with a Climate Control interface?
Is this at all possible/feasible? Is it just the interface that is replaced or is there more to it? (eg. vents/sensors)

BTW, i did search, but no luck on this exactly...

Anything is possible with the right amount of money. :)

Unfortunately, it is not as simple as that.

The system includes a control unit (the Interface, etc), motors and pullys to control the vents etc, brackets, wiring, temperature sensors (external and internal) and probably some other stuff I have missed.

Not to mention, if you could get a hold of all the parts, you would have to completely remove the entire dash to fit it. If you didn't do it all yourself, you can add a few hours labour to the cost.

I imagine you would probably not have much change from about $2000 for the job.

Not worth it in my opinion.

Thats why I bought my VRX with Climate control ;)

TJ VRXes came with climate, did they?

Peeking into a TL VRX and that had knobs. Been cheapo'd...? :doubt:

Yes, TJ VRX's came with Climate control standard in the MY02 and Series II models.

All TL's have what is known as Semi-Auto climate control. It still has an Auto function available but uses dials instead of buttons and a LCD like the old system.

Thanx mate, just something else to waste my money on!

If you are going to waste your money anyway, I would personally look at trading the VRX on another VRX with Climate - may end up costing the same as retro-fitting it, plus you may end up gaining a few more features as well :)

Again, just my opinion. Good luck if you decide to do it though! I would be interested to know the outcome. :)

hows about you just buy my verada and take the climate control out of it and then resell it with stocko air con, now theres a though. (Worth a try as no one on here seems to want my car)

Motors and pulleys to control the vents???? The vents dont open or close by themselves.. Or change direction by themselves, what do you mean by this??

The vents that switch the air flow from external to re-circulated air is one example.
