 Bloody mechanics in town have now taken my mate for a ride on the dollar express. I need to know if any one can give us girls some hints on saving a few dollars on these probs.
* Price range on cv boots for TR.
* Steering rack. (its spilt and needs repairs)
*Idle stepper Replacement(its faulty due to other probs)

Most of the other things they said needed doin should have actually taken place to my knowledge in the service that was paid for.
*Raditor flushed
*Brake fluid flushed.
(they wanted over $100 for these) What a joke.
This weekend Im going to do these for her if not sooner..
No offence meant here to you blokes But what the **** do males think us chicks are. DUMB!! **** that. We do know some things..

But back to the real reason of this topic.. Help please. Pm me or post either way please HELP..

Outer CV boots are about $15 each from Repco (non-genuine, obviously). I think genuine are like $70 or something!
Non-genuine ISC motors are about $120 at Repco, can sometimes find 'em on ebay for about $70 plus postage if you can wait, genuine are I think $270 or so.

Don't know about the rest.

Half of the mechanics take you for a ride no matter what sex you are. Always do some research first so you can tell if they are being dickheads or not, and if you can sound like you know something about the issue, they're less likely to try to pull the wool over your eyes!

CV boots are about 15 bucks, but you'll need 4 (outer and inner on each side). They're all pretty much made by Ottieker(sp) so any that cost more than that are just a load of bull.

Steering rack? I assume you mean the boot? Theyre again only about 15 bucks.

Idle stepper...whats that? Do you mean the Idle speed control motor? These range (depending on where you go) from about 100-400+ (genuine mitsu from mitsu, they quoted me 475 idiots)

I might have one spare lying around...dunno if hte 4cyl and 6cyls use different ones. Mine is a V6 one.

And yes remember I told you magnachick, all guys are arseholes :P lol

There are new cv boots on the market that can be streched over the cv joint and fitted without disassembling the cv off the shaft, these are about $20 each but reduce the time and labour cost. They are sold by Brookvale power steering in sydney but you have to find a mechanic who uses them and has the special tool to spread the boot over the cv joint.
If the car has ABS brakes then pay someone to bleed them properly, some ABS systems have to be in service mode to be bleed properly

I was going to say "WOOHOO!", until I read the rest of the post, ie. you need the special tools to do it.
Recently spent 3hrs replacing one outer CV boot. Though now we know how it goes (eg. the plastic panel that has to be removed to get the shaft out - no mention of it in the service manual!), some of that could be cut down, but it would still be a *****.

$20 each isnt too bad when you consider the CV boot kits are about 15 each.
