Hiya. Sorry if this is a FAQ, but with all the discussion about various mods, I was wondering if there is listed somewhere the basic mods (Pod filter, headers, exhaust, etc) with approximate power increases for each one separately?

Also, I was wondering why CAI setups are so popular - by the looks of my TH, it's designed to pick up air from right at the front already. Does the factory setup not work well enough?

Finally, what exactly is a panel filter?

Oh, almost forgot. I have a TH Sports (3.5L) and I gather that mechanically the Sports was no different to the Exec (IE the same basic 147Kw motor) - is this correct?

Yeah same engine as the exec. I got Pacemaker Extractors and a new exhaust, there was a very noteciable difference in power (gained) especially on the highway, more than I though it would, and the noise difference is great. Mine with a highflow first muffler and a rear resonator sounds awsome in the high rpm's, but at 90kph in 5th there is a fair bit of drone, but it's not loud enough to be annoying. At 100kph is is about half as loud and at 110kph it is half a loud again, it just sounds awsome because at 2800rpm is where the exhaust note starts to change. Hope that was not to long winded, and some what helpfull.

Well a pod filter will make your induction noise sound really tough
Also noticed while driving on the freeway it uses like 50-100 rpm less at the same speed.

Exhaust makes the car sound faster but it also frees up the exhaust more as u would get a straight thru muffler, also uses less fuel as the exhaust gases exit the car quicker. With the muffler the main way the VRX gets 163 kw is from what i know just caused by the muffler.

Headers give anything from 5-10 kw while also making car use less fuel.

Most of these mods lean out the fuel mixture resulting in the less fuel used and u also dont have to put the foot down as much to accelerate.

Isn't that the part that chokes the system more than anything else. My local muffler guy said a Lukey on the back turns it into a totally different car, but then again mines bog standard due to lack of funds.

I've heard that here on the forums a few times, but I find that amazing. The thing is HUGE, and has a large input pipe and two huge outlets. Must be a really crappy design internally..

For your info... I found both of these really helpful

Magna TH Sports Review 1 (http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_0174/article.html)

Magna TH Sports Review 2 (http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_1437/article.html)

The 2nd one is specially good as it comes from a Mitsi designer.
Conclusion... Rear muffler is the biggest power mod for reasonable money.

Good links Poita. For about $200 you have something a bit quicker with a nice growl. When I can afford it, a new lukey is goin on.
