View Full Version : ****ed speaker

A day ago I suspected that one of my 4" speakers in the dash (Alpine SPS100A) was ****ed, took it out today and it distorted and crackled and played silly buggers when it was sitting on the dash. I thought mayhaps the metal mounting in the dash was causing it, or maybe the grill cover. The passenger side speaker is fine and dosen't distort while the other (driver's side) speaker does.

So the speaker is ****ed. Going to go back to the shop and try for replacements. The speakers aren't amped so I don't know how the damage occured. If I get the cold shoulder, I'll just write off the $99 and go and get door speakers. I'm not quite sure what I should do really. Budget is probably around $300 max (inc install). I ask all this as there are experts here abouts who really know what the best course of action is.

From reading posts dug up by the good ol' search hamster I take it that behind the map pockets on a TS exec there are metal brackets that a 6" speaker can be screwed into. I take it that spacers may also be needed. Install won't be a problem as someone else is doing it (probably autobarn).

Does anyone have the max mounting depth for front door speakers in the TS exec? What about water getting in from the top? Will **** rattle in the door?

Go the door speaker for sure. 6" splits.

Hertz HSK-165 rrp around $330 will go nicely.

Those speakers are a bit too classy for me. Never heard (heh) of Hertz, don't think I could get my hands on them locally anyway. Cheers tho.

Does anyone have Pioneer TSD160R speakers? Like this (http://shop.ryda.com.au/main_itemdetail.asp?cat=1&item=TSD160R&intAbsolutePage=19&LinkedItem=TSA1680S&search123=) and this? (http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/car_entertainment/speakers/tsd160r/index.html)
I aready have the 6x9 version so these would go well right? Or would a 3 or 4way speaker be a better....way to go?

I asked autobarn if they could install speakers in my front doors and the said it would cost me too much unless i was getting a custom job done.
I have noticed that 3 & 4 way speakers sound better cause they seam to not have as much bass coming out. Splits are awesome
As for the door rattle bit I'd say yes, something might rattle if turned up loud enough
