ok, I have had a billion thoughts for a long time of how to utilise my cargo area, and I have finally found the best way which will a look good and B serve the greater purpose.
In only showing the passenger side of the car, it was the easisest way to explain how it would turn out.
Large custom made containers made of wood will be place either side of the cargo area, and will be made to mold over the top of the wheel arch so to not look out of place.
The passenger side will consist of a pioneer 6x9 and my current 10" subwoofer along with a downlight along the side inwhich i will be doing custom wiring to work with when the tailgate opens.
The drivers side is where the idea comes into play.
Whilst it is still molded over the wheel arch with the 6x9 above it, toward the back will consist of a lid and body open container in which tools will be in certain slots and will have all shelves and lil boxes inthere to carry stuff, it will also serve a purpose to store small goods out of sight.
whilst the image below is only of preliminary layout, and nowhere near based to scale, the width will be an exact 8" on both the drivers and passenger side, why? due to the drivers side 8" edge laying directly on the spare tire housing dip.
An entire new wooden stronger floor will be made, along with a split flip lid to unveil the spare tire, due to my pvc 1 no longer fitting (tyres to wide)
so, after all that which i have probably now lost you, here is the image
what's your thoughts, how could I improve it, etc. :D
EDIT: added drivers side!! shows the actual width of what it will be as well as how it will benefit, instead of you guessing with a sub there.

i think 8inches is alittle further out than that
and depends what the point of it all is.
cos in both my cars so far, the entire boot space is flat, so i was just going to get some 2x4cm lengths of wood and interconnect em into square sections roughly the size of a large ezki each so the shopping didnt go from one side of the car to the other. paint it black to camoflage into the carpet colour, and if u have large objects like folding chairs and whatever, they still fit in the boot, or just remove the jigsaw puzzle of wood :P
If you are more after someplace to house your speakers and gain some extra concealed space, then what u have is pretty good. maybe have them a triangle shape since of the square shape? but you would have less room.
do you have one of those blind type things that u can pull across the cargo space?
ooh, im my old brothers fairmont, it had factory gas placed where the spare tyre was, and had some fancy setup to mount the type just infront of the driver side wheel arch. if done really neatly, like his, you would look at the cargo area, and absolutly forget that the spare tyre doesnt normally belong their and theres something hiding under the carpet.....

nah, for what the purpose is, is to get a few things ut of the way, the speakers are in the normal area atm, with a large sub enclosure in the middle of the cargo area, kinda annoying, coz it has to be moved and blah blah. the right side is purpose for storing tools, without needing a tool case in the rear, so its kinda moulded in.i know 8"s is more, as i said not to scale
as for a cargo blind, those things are hella hard to find, I spent a year trying to find 1, then gave up.
in the end its to have the speakers all out of the way, mainly the sub, to have a toolcase and storage area built in, and to look good. having a wheel sitting up in the air in the cargo area looks ugly as. Ive never seen a decent job of that ever done.

i hope the sub will b sectioned off inside the box with a port (if the sub needs a port). also, section off the 6x9... more punchy bass etc
i personally it will look stupid have boxes on either side. will make the rear look like there is hardly any room to store things in it. at least curve the top edge of the boxes so it won't look so damn boxy in there if u do go ahead with it

it had a special carpet cover over the top that was exactly the same as the floor, was out of the way and not an eyesore

the sub, the light and the 6x9 will all have seperate sections yes, as will the other side, there is still a mass amount of room, and with the speakers ontop to break up a great big flat of nothing it will be ok. the sub will have the port toward the bottom closest to the tailgate, 8"s really isnt alot, its the smallest, tho largest I can make it, and thereby have the greatest amount of room for storage.
you still have a large wheel on 1 side of the car sticking up on the air , you look in the rear of the car and youd see this huge buldge there where the wheel is... nah, the wheel in the air isnt an option, it has to look nice, i cant see an in the air wheel as being nice......
also as a note, the sub i reckon is larger, as is the 6x9 and the downlight will break up the flat nothing opposite across the sub. the left has to be of the same width and all, mainly coz A it needs to house a sub, and B would look off if not identical to the drivers side.
would a jpeg of the drivers side help?
EDIT: ok, added the drivers side, makes it easier to see the objective goal now.

Looks good, good idea. You should put another sub in the drivers side box, and make the downlights come on when the tailgate is opened! Possibly you could carpet the whole lot? That would look good, and maybe instead of downlights, you could use neons instead, make it look a bit cooler.
Just my 2c.

Yeah, the downlights I want to come on when the tailgate opens, but not when the doors opens, dont really need light back there if you arent there. I was thinking about what if 2 subs idea, but nah, the whole point is for the 'tool case' storage area, see with the amount of height and width which I have to work out exact measurements today, I can easily later on fit a 12" in there
the entire area i'm still not sure if ill be carpeting it or what, I have an idea, but see the prob is it won't suit the rest of the car.
You know those nice cheap wood panels, that looks like any kind of tree you want, like cherry, red, mahogoney etc, i was thinking of having the tops of the containers and the base floor as carpet, and the sides where the sub and downlid for the box is to be wood panels, but the car doesnt have anything wood panel, nor will it in the future.
so i think carpet all the way, but i'll have to recover the backseat wooden covers so the color matches.
as for neons, i was thinking about that, but the car looks ricey enough, this thing I want to be practical. so yeah, thats why downlights.
Just had a thought, What if i get some vinyl that is the same color as the door trims so the color scheme isnt thrown off when you reach the back, coz the tailgate lid inner is gonna be redone also, an inside latch to release if ure locked in is to be in play.
EDIT: after talking to my boss who does drafting I was able to find out what the L capacity of the container will be and thereby give me a nice idea of what i can store in there
I have updated the pictures to now show exact dimensions of the containers, tho there still not accurate. 37.5L capacity will be the end result which i think its really quite good, it's more than i expected and will allow me to fit even a cordless drill and few other machinery bits in there. :D tops
