Got a TR with a sloppy (or broken) bonnet release cable - tried pullin, pushin, shovin, smashin and wackin, but to no avail. Any tricks on how to release the bonnet?

Many thanks

My boot release was really sloppy for a while, then eventually just stopped working. Theres obviously a snap in the cable somewhere... Replacing the cable isnt impossible, just takes a while and requires some patience i suppose.

I havent replaced mine, im not too fussed about it.

I look at the posotive side and see it as a safety option to stop people gettin into the boot without a key.. really im just lazy tho... :doubt:

He said bonnet, not boot. However, I am not aware of any such way to open one that has a snapped cable.

You will ahve to get to it from underneath, the grill may have to come out, be prepared to buy new grille clips

im pretty sure you can get the grill off without buying new grill clips as iv done it before and im no mechanic. But i think if you come from underneath you should be able to see the release cable and be able to pop the bonnet, just a case of getting under the car and checking it out before you ask someone else.
cheers

First try undoing the cable from the lever under the dash and pulling the cable end with pliers, if it pulls out freely then you know it's broken,

You can remover the grill by releasing the retainer clips thru the front of the grill and leave the clips in the body, then pull the grill out from the bottom first to get it out from under the bonnet. Refit the clips to the grill once the grill is out.
If the cable hasen't broken right next to the bonnet catch then you can loop the cable out from between the RH light and the bonnet catch and then cut the outside of the cable so u can get to whats left of the inside cable and pull it with pliers.
If the cable is broken at the bonnet catch then you will have to unbolt the catch from the radiator support and then release it with the bonnet up.
