he must really be lovin that car to wanna recondition the engine after 300k.. it would probably cost more then half the cars value..

anyway, HM Gem are well known as being one of the best reconditioners around, you can source these engines through repco, have no idea on price but you pay for quality i guess.. and these engines are as good as brand new!

Avoid HM, RPM and all those other mass engine reco places as they are rubbish. I used to fit engines at a servo i worked at and over 50% were faulty.

Find an engine reco place that does the work with pride or find a lower mialage motor from a wrecker, there are plenty around.

AC Delco does remanufactured motors with a 60,000km/2 year (I think?) warranty.

mate im not having a go at him, im simply saying that he must love the car because in the same situation, alot of people would just sell the car. its a good thing for someone to be that enthusiastic about their cars!

Sorry. Didn't mean to sound rude. Some people do love their cars, for example, I've only given up on the station wagon, as to repair it now would push amount spent to over $5000, which is far more than it's worth (admittingly, I've spent over $2500 on it...)

I used to think HM/Gem engines were ok till I pulled the rocker cover off a Gen2 EFI 4cyl that had a newish Gem sticker on the rocker cover to find it had a Gen1 head including the cam and no roller rockers. This was in a car I had bought  If you current engine is only tired and you want a NEW new engine and can afford to have the car off the road then get your engine re-machined and rebuilt so you know what your getting back.

Tetrin engineering have a pretty good reputation for engine work in the hunter they do a lot of big diesel work too.

And for the price you paid who could blame you, in my veiw putting that motor in made the car a better package, instead of just a modded standard car.
