A while ago I saw a TH with no 3.5 engine badges but the salesman said it was a 3.5 and not a 3.0 engine, other than driving it is there a visible stamp on the block which can be seen like 4G74 or something? It may well be on the compliance plate but that does not mean it is not a 3.0 replacement engine, this problem used to exist with the Sigmas as both engines looked identical except for a gold sticker, they were stamped on the block 4G52 for the 2.0 engine and 4G54 for the 2.6 litre, so I would assume that the V6's follow similar suit with 72 and 74 being the capacity codes.

yer, thats all good, but doesnt stop someone putting a 3.0L engine in a 3.5L VIN car.
but what he's trying to find out where the physical engine code is "on th engine" so he can verify that the car is infact a 3.5 or a 3.0

The "6G64.." should be stamped on the engine too.

The code on the engine which is at the front right next to the transmission should say
6G72 for 3ltr
6G74 for 3.5ltr
And when i was checking that code on my mums new car and the plate is very hard to read if dusty and dirty.
Usually when the car dosent have the 3.5 stickers it usually istn 3.5 either, but that might be cause the owner too it off but dunno why u would do that.
Also the salesmen know shiiit all about most cars, i was telling one salesman the diff between the 3.5 and 3 and he was even asking me wether it was 3 or 3.5. lol

I found that out about car sales men too two years ago, I even asked a few dummie questions I already knew the questions to just to see what answer I got :slap: <-- would of applied very well for some of the answer I got if I wasn't worried about a court case :)

Thanks guys for you responses, I figured that it would be on the block somewhere, probably easier to see with a torch.

Unfortunately mitsubishi didnt want it too easy to notice what engine each car had so the only thing that was said on the engine on the covers was.
24 Valve or something like that.

The 3.5 L has two solenoids plus some vac tubing just to the front of the intake plenum on top of the front rocker cover. There is also an EGR connecting pipe between the rear exhaust manifold and the rear of the plenum. It also has stamped 3.5 on the black ribbed rubber hose that connects the output of the airflow sensor to the throttle body (at the airflow sensor end).

another quick way to check between 3.0ltre and 3.5ltre is the colour of the injectors.3.0litre have orange ones 3.5litre has yellow ones.
