Hey guys,

My mate has bought himself some oil (lots of it too) and well i guess he cant return it... not knowing much about cars, he thought oil is oil... so he's got a few bottles of GTX3 15w-50...

Is this fine to put into his TS efi 4cylinder? anyone tried it?

i've volenteered to change his oil... cos he'd rather avoid paying a mechanic to do a simple task of changing oil + filter (i dont blame him either... it's piss easy to do yourself) but his car has skipped about 4 services and the oil is black as...

Cheers,
Bill

its a bit thin, depending on how many k's his cars done. If its alot 150+ id say hed be burning it fairly quickly.. And if he has an already noisy timing chain.. its gonna get alot noisier..

thats my assumption of what could happen anyway :)

his car's only hit 100k

it hasn't been serviced since 80000...

the chain aint noisy... it's quite a nice condition car, i dont wanna see it become crap from him skipping services

it's in need of many other things too - like new air + fuel filters, maybe coolant change (it's a bit brown/dirty), etc

automatic needs oil change too - but i'll leave that to the experts and try and convince him to do it...

what?? 100k?? thats nice and low, wish my car was back to 100k

yea, i guess it really couldnt hurt? I maen its just a bit thinner oil.. Meant for brand new cars i spose.. but its all good.

new air filter and fuel filter aint all that big a job. If you know where everything is, its easily done urself. same with coolant.

Just wait till he reaches 150-180.. then he has to deal with replacing timing chain, valve seals, and just pray to god his auto doesnt conk out on him. Theyr always a bit dodgey, never know when theyr gonna give up.

well goodluck :D

Theyr always a bit dodgey, never know when theyr gonna give up. Autos conking out... been there, done that... gen1's are famous for autos that commit suicide at the drop of a hat...

And replacing timing chains, etc - that's what my car needed, but i ended up cracking the head + gasket - recondition motor... another thing astrons do i guess

Yeah, everything should be straight forward - most of this stuff i did when i did auto cert 1 and work experience...

All should go well - except for this sump plug that i dont like the looks of...
