I recently had this problem, as a brain teaser lets see if anyone can work out how to overcome it.

I have a TR magna that only has the service key, so I can't opperate the boot lock or glovebox lock.
The remote release cable came loose from the boot lock.
The car has LPG and there is a gas tank sitting across the front of the boot so I can't get to the lock through the hole in the back seat.

without breaking a taillight or damaging the lock or any panels how do you get the boot lid open?

Angle grind the parcel shelf off ,wash yourself wearing a woolen jumper so you shrink then climb down and unlock the boot with the tyre iron.

Failing that call a look smith then fix the cable.

this isnt looney toons mate lol

also, im sure just about anyone who owns a car, keeps a spare key Somewhere around? If your worried about someone breaking into the boot then a crowbar is every theives best friend unfortunately.

Cant you get to the cable at all? If so..just pull on it?

The other way is to do what I did agggeeess ago when this situation happened to me, and I just a stick and ended up flicking the lock from inside open.

Took ages to get it tho

I have overcome the problem but I want to see if anyone can figure out the non-destructive way to get in. It was only a problem because this car has LPG. Good to see some of you are thinking
I didn't use a locksmith or pick the lock. I now intent to try to get a new master key from the mitsu dealer, I didn't get one with the car, I have a key for the car but as I said before it is the service key and doesn't work the boot or glovebox.

Aegis, i'm already as skinny as a rake and I couldn't fit my arm past the gas tank.

Gerard, I used a non destructive method so unfortunately the crow bar is out.

Killbilly, the cable actully came out of the clips and disconnected from the boot lock and bent the latch when I tried to pull it while someone pulled the lever, The plate over the back of the lock is missing so the cable could come free. I couldn't get inside the boot or see the lock from the cabin, there is a gas tank in the way.

This happened to me, just got a coat hanger and pushed the hook up under the bottom of the boot lid and hooked onto the latch and unlatched it.

ok heres how i got in..... I remover the number plate lights fron the boot lid and then got a long flatblade prybar with a 45deg bend and a small inspection mirror (to see where the clip was and what i was doing). I put the prybar thru the plate light holes and tapped the retainer clip up from either side with a hammer till it came off the outside of the lock barrel.
The lock barrel can then be pulled back out of the boot lid far enough to turn it like a key.

took ages to get it to release and I was about to smash a taillight then i saw the screws in the number plate lights.
I'm thinking it might also be possible to get in by removing the parcel shelf trim and reaching thru the speaker holes to unbolt the boot lid hinges so you can get in the front of the boot lid to get to the latch.....bloody LPG! (except for the bit about 37cpl and 500km out of 60L)

with the time it took I don't think a thief will consider it a good way to get in when there is always a brick.

whilst on the topic of fire extinguishers......

a mate recently told me...if your car catches fire....and u attempt to extinguish it yourself, you cant claim any damage on insurance. Apparently its because you're 'expecting' something to happen and u have no qualifications in fire extinguishing.....

Sounds a bit dodgy to me.....

anyone know nething about this...till i find out my extinguisher is stayin in the boot....especially after having a mates battery catch fire....
