Hey,
I bought my cousin a Magna 1990 TP Astron II Carby the other day, now I want to get his sound system happening. I'm looking at getting him 6" Splits in the front, but will they fit? or will I have to settle for 5"? Anyways, this is the quote i've been given:

JVC Head-Unit (with Sub-Level control for Phase 2 of the system)
6" Splits in the front (tho the guy didnt know whether they would fit or not, so thats the reason for the post)
what should go in the back (in terms of speakers?)

and no amp or subwoofer in phase 1, so it'll all run off the headunit.

Quote: $717, + $70 for installation, so around $790

Whether it's 5" or 6" you gotta cut away metal in the door to get them to fit...

Here's what I did... They are 6" pioneer splits

6x9's will fit in the back if you cut metal away too... otherwise there should be 5" or 6" speaker holes (can someone confirm size??)

Thanks for such a quick response (considering the time), appreciate it a lot. I'll be taking the car to get the system put in, i'm getting real decent quality for the speakers, because when the sub and amp get placed in for phase 2 I want it to all work with a high standard.

Appreciate your response!

first of all, i have splits in the front of my car in the doors too. i had to chop a small portion of metal away but its not that hard to do. i have a thin spacer aswell, all just screwed into the door and it's solid as. no rattles etc...

secondly, u should just get some midrange 6" speakers for the rear since u are getting a sub. if u get 6x9's the bass produced by these (more than a 6" speaker) will compete with the sub. the better systems have the normal 6" speakers in the rear.

if u wanna go all out, u can purchase a set of splits for the rear aswell. that way, in the cabin it will be a great mixture of high and mid frequency from front to back, and then the lower frequencies coming in from the boot (higher powered subs would b best for this idea). this is instead of having the higher frequencies all up front and the ppl in the back are struggling to hear anything but bass and the underpowed normal 6" speakers in the rear.

all up to how much u wanna spend but.

Ive got pics of where you have to cut out the metal and that for a 6" speaker in the front...Just make sure the speaker body or magnet isnt touching metal, that happened to me and shorted my WHOLE system out and nothing would work...enough to piss anyone off :S

JB HiFi are doing it all for me, be damned if I have the patience or intelligence to do it ;-)
